Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The nice walk from Puerto Mogan to Veneguera beach is no longer public. 2 Huge steel gates at the Mogan end and wire fence that would stand the comparison with the Berlin Wall, augmented with countless signs make it abundantly clear: no trespassing. And that is a shame, the 17km return walk was always a delight. From talking to locals we understand that there is pressure to reopen on weekends, but so far no joy. I guess the Veneguera end is no different. Makes the Veneguera beach even more remote than it already was, which itself is not bad.

From the Veneguera village the narrow road takes a gentle big left turn, and then you perhaps see a battered sign, pointing to the right: Playa.
The one-lane gravel road winds its way (you use only second or first gear, mind you) between banana, papaya and mango plantations. Every once in a while you have to cross a small gully, which has been paved down and up across the stream with interlocking zigzag concrete stones. The first of these gullies even had moving water in December 2014.
After 8 kilometer the valley narrows into only the Veneguera barranco itself. This means that you have to drive on top of the rather big stones in the riverbed.
The stones in the riverbed being at least of cranium size meant that I desided to value my hired car (Fiat Panda) higher than my desire to visit the nudist beach of Veneguera. To my surprise, on the narrow road I was able to turn the car around, so that we could go back the way we came, in search for some other highlight of sightseeing for that day.
In my estimation you need a military four-wheel-drive truck to be able to continue driving on those riverbed stones.
So, the beach as such I still only know from looking at pictures, which to my eye promises a fairly high amount of sandy beach - perhaps mostly at ebb-tide. With a difference of up to 1,40 meter from flood-tide to ebb-tide the beach may look very different during the day.
After arriving home in Danmark, I was intrigued by Googlemaps-pictures showing ordinary cars parked close to Playa de Veneguera. So, I took a scrutinizing extra look at Googlemaps in close-up view.
As I mentioned, 8 kilometer from GC-200 I was stopped by the cranium-sized stones in the riverbed. However, if you let Googlemaps show the whole route to the beach, you notice that at 7,5 kilometer from GC-200 you are supposed to divert to the right from the barranco-road that you have followed so far. The diversion leads you through the middle of a plantation and then straight on to the beach, 10,1 kilometer from GC-200. Half an hour of driving, according to Googlemaps.
I wish you better luck than I had.
You will find an account of the controversy about keeping the Veneguera valley a natural place, free from massive hotel development, in the middle section of a homesite about 'nacion canaria blogspot Veneguera'. Alas in Spanish, but a Google Translate will give you the essentials.

This was a beautiful beach that we had pretty much to ourselves, I counted 12 people. Take the back roads out of the village and west down the valley and follow the dried up river bed for 10kms. 4x4 best, but we saw lots of smaller cars etc. The beach is pebbled with black sand and gentle waves. Stay and watch the sun drop into the ocean. Perfect.

What a beautiful quite beach. The sea is a little rougher and it's not touristic at all. The road is heavy to get there. You need to drive a long road through nowhere from which the last 5 km are over stones. Not accessible with a low suspended car.

As most natural beaches on Gran Canaria are — except for Maspalomas and the man-made Puerto Ricos etc. — are rocky, pebbly and black, please do not expect this one to be an exception. Playa de Veneguera is remote and secluded, and there is a good reason for that whatever the travel guides tell you. This beach is more a test of expectations than a "hidden gem". So if you are prepared to negotiate your way by car over 30 minutes down from Veneguera "town", through the banana plantations and eventually to the beach, if you have packed a lunch with you and if you do not mind the occasional nudists or the go-pee-behind-the-bush treks, this beach is for you. If not, then not.

Its about 4 Kilometers down a progressively worsening narrow road/track. The scenery on the way is quite nice but the road is so bumpy its hard to appreciate it. When you eventually get there its a fairly scenic pebble beach about 1/4 mile long but theres no facilities and its a bit scruffy in parts. Wouldn't have bothered if I'd have known.

We walked to Veneguera Beach from Puerto Mogan for a change of scenery. The walk was around 2,5 hours each way and when we got to the beach there were no facilities. We had brought lunch and all other requirements so this was no inconvenience. Anyone visiting the beach unprepared would have a problem. Otherwise we found the location totally unspoilt, remote and interesting. The locals heavily resisted an attempt to commercialise the area some years ago which would explain the remoteness of the location. Anyone looking to get away from the commercialised part of the Island would enjoy Veneguera though you should also be aware that clothing was very much optional at the time of our visit.

Very quiet beach on a beautiful day! Saw four other people. Must be something to do with the difficulty in reaching the place! We walked there from the village of Veneguera - 10 km there and 10 kms back. Must say the beer tasted good after the long walk back. The road from the village to the beach is challenging in spots. Hire car insurance might have a problem if you got stuck. Previous contributors mentioned the track from Puerto Mogan to here being closed off with gates, signs and fences. The end of the road at Playa De Veneguera was open but there were signs saying "Private Property" and "Prohibido Paso a Personas No Autorizadas" . So looks as if somebody does not want walkers from this end either!!

We went to visit place during our weeks holiday. Nice small town with few basic shops. We went to market on one of the days and you get usual market stuff from the stalls. Worth a visit.

This is a special but also hard way to find the beach. Black sand, clean waters, nobody around, perfect to do naturims and spend a night under the star in couple.
