Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Compared to many of the lovely places in Las Palmas, we didn't find anything special about Parque de Santa Catalina.
A small area of greenery, a totally useless Tourist Information Centre adjacent (if you need a TIC go to the one on Playa de las Canteras, or better still the fabulous one in the Casas de Consistoriales in Vegueta), several tables with elderly local gentlemen playing dominos and some downmarket restaurants.
Maybe the first place you see if you disembark from a cruise liner (we didn't) but not typical of Las Palmas.

At Sundays there is a Market nearby from 9-14 and you can get good bargains there, if you are strong enough to bargain :) Fridays there is live music at the bar of Nuevo Rio and everybody is dancing in the end.

Going into Las Palmas? Go past Santa Telmo onto Santa Catalina and it’s all there. As you come up the escalator to your right is the harbour and shopping centre.
And to your left Las Canteras beach and restaurants not more that quarter of a mile apart.
Buses to anywhere on the island is a great way to see this island, forget hiring a car, sit back and let someone else do the driving for a change.
If you fancy a long walk along the beach then Las Canteras is for you, it gets sun all day and has great swimming in the clear blue water.
For me, a visit isn’t a visit unless I have watched the sun go down sipping a cocktail or two sitting by the sea, it’s so Shirley Valentine, but that’s me all over.

Parque de Santa Catalina is an pretty attraction, because there are some small restaurants, an important tourist information point, with terminus stop of hop on hop off buses, a monument with an old woman with cats, and a good and cheap souvenir shop.
If you arrive Saturday at the noon, you can see a cultural manifestation of the local people - dancers, chorus and folk band. You'll not regret seeing this admirable show.

Although Santa Catalina is a bustling hub and focal point for the port of Las Palmas, the Gran Canaria capital, it is patently not a park. There is a children's play area and a nearby skaters park but Santa Catalina is essentially a great square where buses stop, where drag queens strut (at Carnival time), where tourists and locals congregate, where you can purchase international newspapers and magazines. It also boasts the science museum and an exhibition center. But it certainly does not look like a park.

A beautiful square with lots of life and people- watching opportunities. Not a 'park' in the way I am used to, but no worse for that. We walked through during a big football match and people were crammed around screens outside the bars, it had a really inclusive atmosphere.
Also, a very convenient location- the bus station is right next door, a shopping centre is next to that and the city beach is only minutes in the other direction.

Beware of the agressive Moroccon people in the Park, especially after dark. Dangerous place. Several people have been mugged on the area lately and Police dont mind tourists too much.

Niece spot to relax in the sun. On the bus route and lots of taxis so it is central to lots of stores and restaurants. Play area for kids.

Across from the bus station. A nice park to take a walk or relax on a bench. There are multiple local restaurants in the area to enjoy
