- Amy DLondon, United Kingdom33 contributionsUnbelievably beautiful!Just stunning!! I cannot recommend visiting this place enough! It feels like being on another planet. There are a few laybys to stop and take pictures and plenty of car parking. We didn't take the cable car as very expensive but there was a good cafe, toilet and shop facility where the cable car leaves from. The drive from Puerto de la Cruz to Tiede was about an hour and a half. It's best to go on a day that isn't cloudy to ensure maximum visibility.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 26 September 2023

Amazing place, spectacular views, looks like you are somewhere at the other planet. In some places - the feeling is like you are at Mars. The best discovery for last year- strongly recommend.Visited November 2023Travelled with familyWritten 2 November 2023
- Charlotte WNarberth, United Kingdom37 contributionsUnspoilt wilderness with cable car to the summit of El TeideThe national park is an unearthly volcanic landscape that could be used for a sci fi film. There’s a cable car station to take you up Mt Teide, a Parador, a church, some parking places and a network of hiking trails and not a lot else, it’s completely unspoiled. The road up to the park is long and winding and takes you through and above the cloud layer, with spectacular views down. We went stargazing and found the drive back a little unnerving, driving through thick cloud in the complete darkness with hardly any other vehicles on the road was somewhat scary and I’d probably recommend making it a daytime trip. But well worth going for the vast, impressive vistasVisited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 November 2023
- Mark And TerrieCornwall, United Kingdom51 contributionsVery HonestOk, there were three things we wanted to do when we were in Tenerife and when we found I was unable to go up the cable car due to my asthma I thought that was it. However a very nice tour company had a coach trip which went to 2500ft and went all around the local area too. The tour guide also informed us honestly that the extra £40 to go up was really not worth it. Maybe she was trying to make me feel better but not according to others who had been up themselves. There are lots of rocks, lava, burnt trees from the recent fires and lots and lots of cars and people. It is great to get out and walk about and take photos but in all honestly that's all it is, rocks, that you can't take home, can't touch, takes you ages to get through the roads as people do not want to move their hire cars over. It was worth visiting once but unless we were with people who had not been before we would probably not revisit. We also purchased Loro Parque and Siam Park twin ticket which is well worth the money.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 January 2024
- Viv E7 contributionsVast national park, so many walksVast national park, so much to explore. The landscape is like being on a different planet. There’s a museum, cable car, a local bus runs through the day carrying you from one side to another (several km’s). Well worth spending a day or two visiting.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 March 2024
- Jim D229 contributionsOutstanding views and history of Volcanic activityUndertook a guided tour that included demonstrations of the heat just under the soil, still warm from the volcanic activity 2-300 years ago. The scenic coach ride through the park was great as well, with good views and photo opportunities. Car drivers had a long wait at the checkpoint, but coaches appear to queue jump, and have greater access to the park, so an organised trip may be best!Visited May 2024Travelled with familyWritten 10 June 2024
- Claire MSlough, United Kingdom30 contributionsGreat experienceBooked with Volcano Teide through TravelON WORLD Mount Teide Tour with Cable Car Tickets and it was a great day! This included being picked up from a location close to our villa and dropped off. Our tour guide sorted everything so we didn’t need to queue for the cable car, we jumped right up the front! We took a picnic with us but there is a cafe on site. The views were spectacular! The cable car isn’t recommended for people with heart conditions (which we discovered after we purchased the tickets) but our lovely tour guide was able to sell the cable car ticket to a person who couldn’t get a ticket. Win win!Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 15 August 2024

we decided to take a break from golf for the day, rent a car (£80/day) and take a trip up to Mount Teidi as I had heard it was a great place to watch the stars at night but also to see the sun set. Our sat nav certainly took us the rural route up very steep . narrow roads through tiny villages where there was barely enough room to squeeze our relatively small vehicle through! Anyway once through the villages and back onto the more 'main' style roads its pretty much plain sailing and an easy drive. From our base back in Ambama Golf it was around 60 to 90 mins depending on the route and speed of course. As we approached the area of the national park at the base of Teidi my ears were popping and some of the scenery is without doubt spectacular. From the images Ive seen of the moon / mars and various Sci Fi movies this is about as near as most of us will get to the surface of another planet! Its incredible indeed with barren dusty spaces , jagged rocks and we actually saw a film crew in action as we drove along. Its size is breathtaking and worth a visit. We had a clear day with the sun shining and it was beautiful, however dont forget to pack some warm clothing if you fancy spending any time wandering outside of your car. To be honest we made an error in getting up there a little too early as our main aim was firstly to see the stars but also the sunset as a bonus. Because there is so little to do save for looking at the view or indeed walking (which we were not geared up for) there is nothing save for a visitor center, a couple of cafe's and a hotel up there. We ended up watching the sun go down, which was great but because of our schoolboy error in timings our stomachs (not having eaten since breakfast) overruled our desire to star gaze, which I regret somewhat now back home but hey you cant have it all! I think Mrs Lowe was getting a little 'hangry' TBH and I certainly wasn't going to argue for stars over sustenance! As we drove back down the mountain it was starting to eventually get dark and the clouds with sun made it look like the end of the earth, which I manged a quick glimpse of as I drove back down. I say quick glimpse as you certainly need your wits about you driving back down in the dusk. Its worth a trip but be sure (unless your planning a walk etc) to arrive just before the sunsets as itll be at least another hour or more before its dark enough to witness the light show! Maybe another time?

I opted to do the relatively short hike #3 Roches de Garcia as l have arthritic knees and hypertension. It was a wise decision for people of limited fitness, older people or families with small children. I travelled by bus from the northwest side of the island, and the park was easily and inexpensively accessible. One should go to the Parador de Tenerife stop, the last stop on the 348 line. There is an information desk, a reasonably priced cafeteria and a hotel there. The sky was the most incredible shade of blue imaginable and the views absolutely spectacular. The ride up the mountain itself is optional as far as I am concerned — I was quite content to explore the park at the base of the mountain as there was plenty to see and enjoy. Definitely a “must do” when one visits Tenerife.

Booked a trip with a tour guide to Teide, set off early. The views are fantastic just travelling up to the top.
When you are up at the top if it`s cloudy, your looking down onto the clouds, then you realise just how high you actually are.
It`s well worth a visit and the landscape is amazing.
The only set back is the toilets cost 1 Euro to get in at the cafe, Bar area. At the time of our visit. If you book a trip with a guide, you will stop off on the way up.

We are so very glad we made it up to El Teide on our short 4 nights in Tenerife north. Our fantastic hotel staff suggested a taxi (the big coach and tour group experience didn’t appeal to us and we were tired of driving!) which was perfect. We opted for a sunrise time slot, which people don’t seem to do (!) so we had the road and the park to ourselves at times. The drive up to the national park and down again is great in itself and the it’s just wow when you get there. Photos can never do it justice. The lava fields, el Tiede itself. Magic. Our driver (Luis) also suggested that we go back via Los Gigantes which was also well worth it. We at first were unsure of using a taxi but it was on of the less stressful, most informative activity of our trip! Happy to share that for 2 people, from 6:15am til 10:15 it was 120£. Well worth it when the tours can cost much more and hiring a car was around 50£ and to be honest- we would have had no idea where to go!!
We didn’t do the cable car this time but on the very clear day we had was running. Advice again to get there early.
Don’t miss this experience. A very magical and spiritual place that is worth seeing up close, not just from the rooftop poolside!!

Teide National Park is one of the main attractions of Tenerife island. It is located in the Central-Northen part of the island and easily accessible both by car and by bus. The entrance is fee, but if you want to go with the cable car on Teide Peak, the ticket is around 38 euros for a return trip. The Park is enormous and has Mars like landscapes and lots of trekking routes. There is also a dedicated bus line going around the Park. The temperatures are lower than on the rest of the island, especialy on Teide, so I would recommend to dress acordingly.

Dec 2018: Took the cable car up and walked down. I am no mountain goat; it took 5 hours. Definitely need good walking shoes, in sections it is steep, rocky, scree and slippy. I would recommend a walking pole to help with balance. It is sometimes easy to lose the path (if you do, stop and take a look around). There was no snow or ice and in sheltered parts it was very hot (take lots of sunscreen and water and lip balm!). The part from the refuge down is steep then it really levels out. The views are incredible!!
Jan 2020 walked up, took the cable car back down. To do this you do not need to book a time for the cable car but carefully check the weather as the cable car could be closed due to wind, and then only option is walk down again.
Walking up is easier! The initial gradual incline is a good introduction. No pole needed (would hinder you on the steep bits). To go up took me 3hrs 30. In the shady sides some parts of the path were icy and snowy so good gripping shoes are essential (definitely not trainers!) and lots of sunscreen and lip balm (the wind was strong and biting in some parts). On this occasion when we got to the top it turned out that they had closed this path due to ice and the ranger at the top was not pleased with us, however there were no signs further down and plenty of people had headed up before us and were behind us.
I would rate this walk as moderate: take plenty of time and be aware of the altitude. On the way up we passed a sign saying it was another 4 hours to the top: - however from this sign it took me 2 hours 45 mins at a slow to steady pace (plenty of people were passing me).
If you can climb Snowdon then you can do this: Set off with plenty of time to get to the cable car if you are walking up and be prepared for it to be closed (so plenty of time to walk back again - as the reviews of the refuge are that you will be turned away if you have not booked beforehand even if it is late).

This has been our third visit to the National Park in recent years.
We walked a trail of a few hours based on a some geocaches.
Thanks to a visit to Museos La Cueva del Viento a few days before, we were able to view the lava landscape with different eyes and more appreciation.
It continues to surprise; hikers who go for sneakers or light sandals in this landscape.

We did an organised trip which was interesting especially on the narrow secrions of road upto the top, but spectacular views took your mind of how high we were climbing. Our coach drive was very experienced with the road so we felt safe in his hands. Our guide Marco was very knowledgeable with the area and what grew there. The star gazing on the way down was very interesting he certainly seemed to know his astronomy and made it very interesting teling us all about the different galaxies etc., If you get the chance to do this trip I would highly recommend it on your things to do list whilst in Tenerife.

Fantastic day exploring unfamiliar terrain. The drive was easier than expected, never very steep and the bends never that tight. Easily done in an underpowered hire car. The roads are superbly maintained.
Plenty of places to pull over and take pictures or look closely at the lava flow terrain.
At the cable car base station it was busy but manageable mid afternoon. We hadn’t booked cable car in advance though so were disappointed- book ahead.
Would recommend taking a different route up and down as others have said as the scenery is quite different each approach.

We took a chance with the weather and got lucky for our 62 mile circuit from Puerto de Santiago. Departing before 9 AM, the roads were quiet for the climb into the Corona Forestal Nature Park with the sun peaking through the tall pines. Reaching the open highway of the Teide National Park, we made excellent time to the first viewpoints of the Roques de García with the snow covered 12,198’ Mt. Teide in the background. The parking spots were already beginning to fill at the Roques walking trails just across the 37 room Parador de Cañadas del Teide. We drove up to the Teleférico del Teide which was closed, then to the Sendero de Montaña Blanca viewpoint where the parking lot had a bit of snow/ice. Returning, we passed a constant stream of cars and tour busses coming up from the south highway (TF 21), so we were happy to turn back on the quieter TF 38 with a photo stop at the Mirador de las Narices to see its 1798 vent and black lava field. The misting rains accompanied our descent back through the forest until we had clear views of the villages and La Gomera with the blue ocean.

The permits are all booked out for Februart. We are thinking of hiking up before 9am and then descending via cable car. Is this possible? Is the weather okay on Teide at the moment? Where can we park if the car park does not open until 8/9am? Many thanks for any advice.

We can see already that the permit to walk to the very top of the volcano is sold out for the week in February (16-23) that we are visiting. We will have a car so would like to drive through the national park, park near the cable car and ascend to the top of that. Can anyone tell me if I need to pre-book a slot for the cable car this far in advance or can we just turn up?
Written 15 January 2024
Hi, I believe tickets for the cable car are only sold in advance and are for specific time slots. This was the case back in November. You can buy them online.

Hola
I shall be traveling to Tenerife, landing t Tenerife South Airport at 9 am.
Can I do Teide National park on that day? Say start at 10 and return by 3 or 4.
I can't find any tour which leaves at 10 from South.
I was assuming if I could take a cab to Teife from TFS airport and returns via the Titsa bus? Is it feasible or I have to return tickets on Titsa?
Thanks in advance

I don't think its enough time. I had a car and it takes over an hour to get there...actually closer to 2. and you want to hike and explore. Don't forget, if you want to go UP the tram, it requires a reservation

There is no charge for the park itself. There is a fee for climbing the last part of the volcano.

El Portillo visitor’s centre. It has info boards about Teide & it’s volcanic structure , and also on the unique botany of the area. Garden trail outside, and also starting off point for different hikes into the park. Also free toilets.

Just wanted to say thanks for the interesting and helpful review!
What a great adventure you had! My daughter just moved to
Tenerife and I thought maybe we should try the hike....but I think
I will have to train a LOT before I attempt something like this!
Can't believe how cold it must have been up there. Good
warnings and suggestions for future hikers!
Thanks again :)

Book your time slot at travel agents in all the island resorts, or online. Notably, a key advantage of booking online is that if the cable car is not running that morning or afternoon, the refund goes directly to your payment card—without having to go back to the agent and ask for a refund*. By the way, it's windy quite frequently—so short-notice cancellations are not uncommon.
*They'll probably try to sell an alternative, instead of doing a refund.
