Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We left the cathedral following the ancient Pasadizo del Ayuntamiento or the old City’s Passageway. The13th Century gothic Cathedral of Toledo seemed most severe and a bit imposing as it is the largest gothic cathedral in all of Spain. Its main facade, occupies a part of the Plaza de Ayunteamiento and sits adjacent to the Archbishop’s Palace There were three austere sounding names of the portals entering the stone structure. There were three portals in the main facade, the Portal of Forgiveness, the Portal of the Last Judgement and the Portal of Hell. The Portal of Hell is used for the procession of the palms on Palm Sunday. The bell tower was being repaired but we had a clear view of the Gothic iconography that covered the facade.

The building which houses the city hall in Toledo is located in the same plaza as the Cathedral. Most of the emphasis is on the Cathedral so the city hall building is overshadowed. The building has towers on each end. The building is nice but does not compare to the synagogues and old churches in Toledo.

When I was in Toledo, that little town made me felt like I'm back in time, walked through all that winding narrow streets and 3 cultures (Jewish, Christian and Muslims) in one town.
The magnificent Toledo Cathedral is a place to visit. It is in Plaza de Ayuntamiento. In that little plaza, beside the beautiful Toledo Church, you also can explore the Archbishop's palace and theTown hall. Just one short walk, you can see 3 historial buildings, not bad.
The unique city gates and bridges that made me feel like spending more time to check them out.
Toledo is very close to Madrid, only an hour drive, so please put this town into your plan to visit list.
Happy travelling!

Across from the Cathedral is the Town Hall (Ayuntamiento), a beautiful building with a small park in front, planted with colorful flowers. The Town Hall building was designed by the famous architect Juan Herrera, who designed El Escorial. Gomez Enrique started its construction in 1575, using the plans of Herrera. Herrera's design included a main facade with a severe face. The base used cut stone and had nine round arches. Nicolas de Vergara (El Mozo) and Juan Bautista Monegro worked on the first floor, while Jorge Manuel Theotocopulos (the son of El Greco) worked on the second floor at the beginning of the 17th century. Ardemans was the architect for the Baroque towers that used slate, and this was done in 1703. The triangular front has the coat of arms of the city. The building is characterized by symmetry and Tuscan columns represent Italian classicism. The building has the local tourist office, where one can get a map of the city.

The town hall is set in a nice square (more a triangle) next to the magnificent cathedral. It is a striking building, and the tourist information office is at the left hand end, where you can get a free map of the town - very useful with the streets being so narrow and twisty.

The Ayuntamento square is the best place to admire the exquisite beauty of the nearby cathedral. Its shape is dominating the area and intricate decorations are so eye-catching.

The “Ayuntamiento” de Toledo or “City Hal of Toledo” is situated in front of the main portal of Toledo Cathedral. The construction of the city hall began in 1575 this according to the design made by Juan Herrera. Jorge Manuel Theotocópulos had completed the upper floors. The construction was only accomplished into the 17th century. You will find the “Oficina de Turismo” or the “Tourist Office” on the other side of the Cathedrals mean entrance, and this on the street level of the City Hall, the place where you will get a free tourist map of Toledo, this as well as a lot of useful and updated tips on Toledo, in order to make your visit to the city up to date, do not forget to take a picture of the special fountain in front of the Tourist Info.

The City Hall building was designed by the famous architect Juan Herrera, who designed El Escorial. The building is elegant and there is a large plaza between it and the Cathedral. At the ground floor there is a tourist office where one can get a free map of the city.

I visited Toledo on a day-trip as part of my 7 full-day visit to Madrid and enjoyed it; I've posted separate, more detailed, reviews for all the attractions I visited.
---
I have compiled extensive individual Trip Advisor 'Trip Lists' for both my day-trips to Toledo and visit to see the sights of Madrid, they are entitled respectively 'Toledo Day-Trip from Madrid Oct 2013' and 'Madrid Attractions (+ Toledo/Segovia Day Trips) : 7 Full-Day Visit Oct 2013'. Please feel free to access them via my TA Profile (by clicking my TA 'name' below the photo on the left of this review) and links in each TL. I hope that they are of interest and use to you and that all of my individual reviews/photos/videos get posted properly; don't forget that videos aren't posted with the review like photos are, so it's best to locate them via my TA profile....

I went to Toledo by RENFE train from Atocha station. It's quick, comfortable and good-value - from the station you will probably want to take the bus to get to the hilltop city centre...
It costs to visit most attractions in Toledo. For my visit I bought the good-value (EU8, available to buy from each attraction - it includes a useful city map) 'Toledo Tourist Wristband' (ticket), which offers 6 attractions to be visited for the price :
Iglesia de San Ildefonso (Jesuitas).
Easily the best place I visited in Toledo - An Elegant Interior AND Unbeatable Rooftop Views of the City 'Skyline'.
Monastery of San Juan de los Reyes.
A Small but Attractive Monastery with a Delightful Central Courtyard.
Synagogue of Saint Mary the White (Santa Maria la Blanca).
A Small but Internally Attractive Church with Nicely-Patterned Walls.
Iglesia de Santo Tome.
A Small but Quite Pretty Church with Some Pleasant Internal Features.
Church of El Salvador.
An Old, Pretty, Quaint and Small Church with a Pleasant View from the Tower.
Mosque of Christ of the Light.
Interesting Architecture, Internally Unimpressive.
Cathedral of Toledo+Tower 'Climb'.
An Average Interior, Drained of Charm as the Cathedral has been Converted into an EXPENSIVE Tourist Attraction.
The tower climb was very disappointing and nowhere near as good as what you can see from the earlier mentioned Iglesia de San Ildefonso (Jesuitas)....
Alcazar - [Only for a coffee/city view from top-floor cafe]
If you walk downhill to 'Puerta de Bisagra' (stopping on the way at the Mosque of Christ of the Light and the viewpoint there) you can then catch a bus, from the adjacent stop, back to the railway station.

Nice building that houses the city council of Toledo. Building that is overshadowed by the beauty of the cathedral in the same square but still very beautiful. Typical construction with 2 towers and very much in the style of other Spanish town halls or some Plaza Mayor. Like the whole old city of Toledo, it is worth seeing.
