Cheap entry and good underground visit

As a retired person the entry is great value. There are great views from the battlements though there isn't a lot of the castle left after being blown up in the past. The... read more

If the Well tour isn't running (it wasn't and we didn't find out till after we paid and went in) there isn't much there. The "museum" has many glass cases, 3/4 of which are completely empty. You can look at a few bits of wall, read some interpretive signs & leave. It has good views of the city but you... More

As a retired person the entry is great value. There are great views from the battlements though there isn't a lot of the castle left after being blown up in the past. The underground visit is interesting (and cool when hot outside). You go down tunnels built to try to intercept people from the town who were digging under the... More

The remains of the castle is on a hill overlooking the city. It is a bit of a hike up there on a hot day but good views over the city. Not an enormous amount of the castle left other than the walls as the French blew it up during the Napolionic Wars. They have made a good go at... More

Located in the historic centre of Burgos, the Castillo and Cathedral form the major historic sites of this city. They are both well preserved and it is possible to walk around to view the various historic items. Many of the information signs are in English as well as Spanish.

Visited again recently. Although a ruin it is an interesting castle that offers great views over Burgos and the surrounding area.

First, please note that "Castillo" here means fort, rather than "castle". Visiting the Castillo is the best way to learn about the fascinating history of this important city. The Castillo was established during the Spanish war to reconquer the peninsula from the Moors as part of an effort to repopulate this newly reconquered territory with Christians. The city of Burgos... More

The castle itself is quite average, usual Spanish reconstructed castle with good walkways around giving great views of the town. However if you pay a higher entry fee (€3.70 rather than €2) you get to go on a guided walk underground. The castle has an enormously deep well, and underground passages were dug to clean / protect the well. To... More

A very steep walk up to the Castle from Burgos, time for a rest reaching the view point looking over the town, showing the town is in a bowl shape and does not sprawl into the countryside. We countinued up to the Castle main gate, only to be turned away by the police as the Castle was shut due to a forthcoming event. We were... It is certainly not worth visting Burgos for the castle or the view, but if you want to walk off a long slow walk round the cathedral with the audio tour, then do walk up to the Mirador. At least it is free. You realise how enclosed by countryside Burgos is. I only took one photograph and I will attach... More

Although only ruins remain what is there gives a could impression of what the original structure must been like, assisted by some clever computer drawings to complete the picture. Didn't have time for the galleries and well, but the drawings, live cameras and video walk-through suggest it would be worth the effort another time. Fantastic 360 views of Burgos and... More
