Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

"Casa de las Conchas" (Shell House) was built from 1493 to 1517, and currently it houses a public library. It is a mix of late Gothic style, combined with Renaissance Plateresque style.

The external wall is decorated with over 300 shells, as a symbol of the Order of Santiago and of the pilgrims taking the "Camino de Santiago" (St. James's Way).
Inside there is a nice small inner courtyard, with a fusion of Medieval, Mudejar and Renaissance elements.

Salamanca , the old University, and la casa de Las conchas. A building from .ca 1550, with some 300 shells. In front of the Uni Pontificia, 10 minutes walking to the Salamanca University and 15 minutes to the cathedral

A 16th century building which facade is decorated with sea shells. It is a very unique building and easily recognizable in the center of old town. It is currently a public library and through i the courtyard you can get a great photo op of the the facing Pontifical University building. Admission is free.

Not much here on the exterior except the facade decorations. The building is now a public library. There is an interior courtyard to see.
Your visit shouldn't take long. Outside, at the corner, see the St. James de Compostela marker.

Very pleasant but at the end of the day it's just a house covered in bits of sandstone that look like shells. Worth a look though

Had to stop and see the Shell house. It's directly across the street from the 17th Century Cathedral. The exterior shells on the building very interesting. The interior has a nice courtyard with a well. Very nice architecture inside, as all over the town.

We knew from our guidebook that this was a library that dated back to the 16th century. It blends in well in the Old Town. We later discovered that the building was also used as a garrison and a jail.

This building is most unusual. The exterior wall is covered in large carved shells. It was built in the 16th century, and is a functioning public library.

This unusual but beautiful building has a facade that is studded by carved stone shells and was built in 1517 by Rodrigo Arias de Maldonado. It currently houses the public library which is open to the general public to also view from the inside.
