They are located around a beautiful and spacious area that is accessed through the left corner of the Schoolyard through 2 arches. We had to go through them the 2 times we went to visit the Cielo de Salamanca, located in a classroom that overlooks that patio in the center of which there is currently a blocked well. In these schools people studied to obtain the Bachelor's degree, which is currently known as Primary and Secondary schools.

We had difficulty in finding this place which is off a square on Libreros. In the adjoining courtyard, Escuelas Menores is the entrance to el Cielo de Salamanca. This incredible ceiling was uncovered centuries later after being created in the 14th century. It takes about 5 minutes for your eyes to appreciate it in the darkness. Amazing experience. The ceiling was painted by Fernando Gallego between 1483 and 1486, as part of the vaulted ceiling of the Ancient University Library. The vault brings together all the humanistic, biblical and Christian tradition of astrology and astronomy, as it was understood in its day.

The cloisters offer a very welcome refuge from the sun and the crowds, and the 'Salamanca sky' gives an extraordinary insight into fifteenth century astrological thinking. Just after lunch there was hardly anyone else there.
To get there, face away from the famous facade of the university, go past the statue of Frey Luis and head for the left-hand corner at the back of the square. There, you'll see a hole in the wall, a sort of arch. Go through that and you'll find you're in the cloister. The Salamanca sky is through a door hallway along the wall at the far side.

It is a very nice courtyard, just one minute from the main University building. Very nice arches and quite original from Salamanca. As a plus, you have here the wonderful "Cielo de Salamanca" and also a nice exhibition regarding this marvellous painting

Escuelas Menores can easily be missed during your trip in Salamanca. It is a green courtyard at the end of the square and opposite to the University building. Entry through the iron gate, you can find the green courtyard, sometimes with exhibitions inside. The place is quiet and recommended to travelers.

Situated at the end of the square in front of the University, turning left you are immediately impressed by the history of the place. Two lovely quadrangles of grass and a number of rooms and exhibits around the columned walkways. It is a pity that none of the panels was in english - but Salamanca being so "Spain" - it almost feels as if this is the only place that existed in the country in the Middle Ages - that to deign to speak anything other than Spanish would be heresy! A sign of the lack of progress in Salamanca's position in the modern world.

Make sure to visit the 'ciel de Salamanca' , a fresco depicting constellations in a room off this courtyard.

Attractive courtyard with graceful arches placed entirely around the patio. Built between 1609 and 1611. Part of the University of Salamanca.

The Escuelas Menores in Salamanca was constructed sometime in 1428. The building is organized around a one-story courtyard, whose mixtilinear arches resemble those of the Casa de las Conchas.

I encountered this quiet and secluded courtyard while searching for Cielo de Salamanca. It is located at the back left corner of the plaza located in front of the main university entrance.
Inside the courtyard, the patio is composed of a lawn with a well in the centre, all surrounded by arcades within a series of interesting arches. Aside from the Cielo, the most interesting aspect of the area is the Gothic balustrade, topping the arches, with gargoyles and other mythical creatures in the stonework.
