The outside of this Romanesque church is jus beautiful. It has a very tall sturdy tower with four floors. The first part of the church was built in the 12th century, and the rest of the church is from the 14th century.
The inside is very simple; it has vaulted naves and aisles.

The Church of Santa Maria de la Antigua is located at Plaza de Portugalete. This church is a Gothic church that dates from the 14th century, with a tower that was built for the church in the 13th century. It started out as a chapel for the Conde Ansurez in the 11th century. The church has three naves that are separated by pillars. There is a cloister that is austere. The tower has a square floor plan and has four parts. The bottom part is quite simple, without ornamentation, and has one window. The upper parts have narrow windows in its four faces. The top of the tower has a shape like a pyramid and is covered with roof tile that resembles fish scales. The tower is one of the best examples of the Castillian Romanesque period for its slenderness and beauty. It is called the Queen of the Castillian Romanesque church towers and it is now a symbol of the city.

The Church of Santa Maria la Antigua is located near the Cathedral and its facade is very impressive, with a very tall tower. However one needs to know that the church is open only when there are masses. It is open at 9:30h and 19:30h.

When I lived in Valladolid, this was the church where I attended mass most frequently. Its tower is Romanesque in construction, being older than the church itself which shows Gothic influence. It's the oldest church in Valladolid (12th century) which is why it has the name Antigua in it. Dark and cold in winter, refreshing in summer.

Went to Valladolid for a wedding in this beautiful church. It is a parish church next to the main cathedral but it was built in the 13th century and we would call it a cathedral , also, because it is huge. Very beautiful stained glass windows, too.

The church is impressive, with a great tower structure but it's the plaza area that is really nice, with a pleasant park, shops and cafes and around the back is the Valladollid Cathedral.

Lovely old church a few steps from the cathedral. Well worth a visit, if only for its simplicity. The interior is very unlike any other I have seen in Spain but is a serene oasis.

Beautiful architecture, but simple in nature. Easy to find in the middle of town. The surrounding gardens offer a view not available on most of the chuches in Spain.

Church is sit back from the road a bit, with stones forming the plaza in front of the church side. I really enjoyed looking at the church on a blue sky day. Neat green door too!

The Church of Saint Mary the Ancient is a 12th-century church in Valladolid, Spain. This impressive and delicate Romanesque construction conserves its attractive tower, amazing architecture in the Old Quater of Valladolid. This is definitely one of the most beautiful buildings in Europe.
