    Must see in Barcelona
Such a beautiful piece of the history of medicine in Barcelona, it was a really impactful visit. We loved each corner we saw, definitely would recommend to see in Barcelona. Not a popular site, but definitely worth every second spent there

I'd prioritise this over most Gaudi's
We really wanted something fairly easy to slow paced to do on our last day as it was very hot when we visited Barcelona. We went here on a whim and were so pleased we did, it has a really interesting history and is also just incredibly architecturally beautiful. I'd prioritise this over most Gaudi's.

    A must for Architecture Enthusiasts!
The work of Catalan master architect, Lluis Domenech i Montaner, is best represented here. The progressive way in which the entire hospital complex is conceived was extraordinary over 100 years ago and still is today. The architecture design was dedicated to the healing and health of the patient. Make a visit and you will see how the gardens, vistas, and beautiful architecture all come together to promote wellness. Science and spirituality come together in a most compelling way. Beautiful place for a day visit and they have a great gift shop for authentic and unique souvenirs.

    Modernist masterpiece
Domenech i Muntaner is at least the equal of Gaudi. This is his master piece. And amazing hospital, with each ward block a separate pavilion. Amazing brick, tile, glazed ceramics. Each block connected underground by a white tiled central spine corridor. It’s accessible, with ramps and lifts. Really good half day.

Really cool and really random experience
For me it was so so random coming here I was visiting a customer who is based at the Health Hub that uses one of the buildings on site. I never even knew this place existed getting through security was a bit of a faf but was able to look around to see the buildings after and they are very nice and cool. A thing that really confused me was at the bottom of the stairs for the private buildings was a sign saying not for visitors. That was not strictly true because I was visiting that building so I got a bit lost because of that. You cant really tell people somthing is not for visitors without them knowing what you are visiting.

A Hospital That You Really Should Visit!!
What a fantastic place to visit! It is a World Heritage Art Nouveau site and well worth the €16 entry fee! The hospital was still in use in the early 1990’s but the original concept and building work was from the early 1820’s. Each different building had its own “speciality”, one for men, one for women, one for infectious diseases etc. They are being so well restored, it’s awe inspiring in places. There are artefacts from different time periods, including an old X-Ray machine and areas have been set out as to how they would have been utilised. There are also underground tunnels which connect each building that really make you think, how many people have walked through them, how many patients have been transported to a building, how many professionals have had to take a moment. If more hospitals were like this today I don’t think many people would mind having to be there!!

    Historical and an architectural masterpiece
This building was formerly a hospital until 2009 and built between 1901 and 1930. The new hospital is built beside this building. The architecure is unique and amazing Art Nouveau) and has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1997. It contains 12 pavilions connected through underground galleries. It really is a historical and architectural masterpiece and offers offers workspace to high-profile social organizations such as the WHO, Banco Farmacéutico, Barcelona Health Hub, EMEA, UN-HABITAT and more.

    Beautiful Architecture
I mean we went after seeing the La Sagrada Familia so it was not as impressive and we did not do the audio guide when the ticket box said not to due to some groups touring today. However, you learn a lot about the history of the place, the hospital care and design at the time. Lots of pavilions which were OK but the architecture was lovely. The main building was gorgeous and if face the main building where you would enter from the back on a sunny day, you can see the reflection of the pavilions behind you and the La Sagrada Familia straight-lined through the windows as well. We spent 1.5hrs here or so and it was worth the admission. We did not buy in advance due to lower season but during higher season; you may want to.

Nice Experience Away From the Crowds
If you are looking for an experience away from the chaos and crowds of the busy parts of Barcelona, this is your place. Sant Pau is a beautifully restored Barcelona hospital. The various buildings feature stunning architecture and professionally landscaped grounds. You will find Sant Pau to be very quiet and slow paced, which can be a nice respite from busier areas of Barcelona. They offer a high quality gift shop and many shops and restaurants are nearby. NOTE: You can get your ticket here as a combination ticket with the more popular Palau de la Musica Catalan.

If you are interested in medical history, this is a great find in Barcelona. Originally designed by a colleague of Gaudi, Montaner designed the first hospital complex in 1401. This complex was very innovative with patient care offering healing gardens and recovery salons where patients could rest in elegant sunlit salons. The buildings are Art Nouveau style with Moorish influences. The grounds and buildings are being restored and are beautiful and worth your time.

This UNESCO site is a beautiful treasure: a gorgeous campus with an outstanding tour of its fascinating history. The audio tour is highly recommended to understand as much as possible about this facility’s origins, architecture, practices and philosophy. Do not miss.

The beauty of the buildings here is wonderful. There is so much to see here the architecture is wonderful. Not Gaudi but impressive nonetheless. We spent about an hour wandering the several buildings open to the public. Hard to believe this was a hospital. Not to be missed

They knew how to build beautiful hospitals. Tiled floors, not carpet. Separated wards for patients with infectious diseases. No single rooms, but the wards were beautiful. Of course, the most impressive building was for Admin! It is a short walk from Sagrada Familia. I enjoyed the visit!

We explored this fabulous place independently. The experience was outstanding. The architecture was impressive and the tile work, especially on the ceilings is a real standout. It's a short walk from Sagrada Familia and well worth the time.

Is this beautiful place under appreciated? How come there weren't many people when we went, but other tourist attractions were too crowded?
At first we thought the ticket price was a bit too much. But after our tour, we were happy that we bought them. Highly recommend.

We walked here after visiting Sagrada Familia. I did not book tickets in advance as I was not sure what time we would arrive here and I read there would be no trouble getting tickets on site. We arrived around noon on a Tuesday and had no issue getting tickets right away. It was not very crowded at all, and given the size of the property the people who were there were well spaced out. When researching for our trip, the Recinte Modernista was referenced numerous times as a hidden gem that we should visit when in the city, and I totally agree. Outside of the beautiful art-nouveau architecture, the history of the structures was fantastic, the display of assorted medical artifacts was interesting and landscaping lovely. Overall it is a very picturesque area. We did the self-guided visit (without audio guide) and found that a good way to explore the compound. There were a lot of crew and actors filming while we were there so we were unable to visit certain areas, but there was still a lot to see. If your budget and schedule allows, I would recommend visiting.

Beautiful facility. Working in healthcare, I feel privilege to tour a historic hospital. Seeing what was then and now was revealing of the advances made through science and time. I love this institution bec it was easy to enter. Not much waiting. Even though the web site specifies a time, we showed up over 40 mins late because we were lost and the staff were kind saying “not to worry.” Plenty of bathroom access and are very clean. A great place to visit and spend an entire morning marveling at all the visuals.

With so many must-see attractions in Barcelona, this is usually overlooked and it is a huge loss. It is an amazing site. Architecture and history is very interesting and ticket price is not bad in comparison with more famous sites. The only thing negative is that the pamphlet to guide us wan not really clear and it was hard to find things
