The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883.

The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

I first visited this basilica in 1994 and it is still under construction after almost 22 years later. Yes, this is the legendary basilica which has been in construction more than 100 (?) years and it finally has a finished date. Went to the basilica in late afternoon around 3pm on a weekday where the place was las crowded. I... More

The outside was beautiful. It was lovely inside with sun shining through the stained glass but €18? Really? Wouldn't go again.

One must do a tour of this magnificent structure to truly appreciate the intelligence of the outside design. The classic, simple, unique beauty of the interior is a surprise after the seeing the busy exterior. Will follow with interest the progression of the building of this church. A must see!

We visited in February when the crowds weren't to bad but still felt it useful to have booked our tickets on line to cut queues but be careful our tickets didn't get us up the towers. The outside is amazing but bear in mind it is a work in progress so bits will be covered up & cranes operating. 2026... More

Myself and my husband visited here while on honeymoon in Barcelona. It is truly striking to see. We had planned on going inside the building but on our arrival there were literally hundreds of people queuing to enter. We decided to tour around outside. Gorgeous cultural building
