The Basilica of the Sagrada Familia is a monumental church devoted to the Holy Family: Jesus, Mary and Joseph. Construction began in 1882, based on plans drawn up by the architect Francisco de Paula del Villar, and Antoni Gaudi was commissioned to continue the project in 1883.

The Temple has always been an expiatory church, built only from donations. As Gaudi said: "The Expiatory Church of the Sagrada Familia is made by the people and is mirrored in them. It is a work that is in the hands of God and the will of the people." In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI consecrated the site as a minor basilica.

So, I knew the place was under construction. They have been building this thing for 120 years. What I was not prepared for was the amount of construction. The whole thing is one big construction project. Could they not just focus on one quadrant at a time so you can still get a sense of the beauty of the building?

This is a must see attraction. Set aside a few hours. The time spent exploring Gaudi's work is well worth it. From the light reflecting through the Stain Glass to the wall featuring the Lord's Prayer in many different languages, will leave you breathless! Avoid the lines and book (skip the line passes) in advance.

You must see this in the morning when the sun is coming in the windows. It makes amazing colors. There is so much to see it's hard to do in in one visit.

This is a large Roman Catholic Church although incomplete is now a world heritage site. The most extraordinary in structure both exterior and interior the place draws huge crowds for its unique architecture, a creation by Antonio Gaidi. The stain glass windows are radiant fixed on the high arches illuminating the entire interiors. There are services held eve with tourists... More

Despite the ongoing construction, you must visit this Basilica, both inside and out, in the daylight and at night. We first saw it on a city bus tour and then returned doing the evening. I'm sure that we could have visited many more times and not seen everything there is to see

We were really looking forward to visiting this place and the first sighting of it was from a trip on the open top tourist bus (blue route), when it suddenly appears - when it did my jaw dropped! What a stunning sight, so unlike any other religious building we have ever seen and we've seen quite a few! We did... More

A must see while you are in Barcelona! When you walk in the architecture is amazing! The light and whimsical features are unlike any other church. Buy tickets online or potentially you will be waiting in line a long time. If you do not get the tickets online you may not be able to go that same day as they... More
