I am no history buff, but I really enjoyed this tour. Nicks knowledge level is amazing, He personalised the tour according to the nationalities of the individuals attending. He gave us an understanding of the complexities that existed in Spain prior to the civil war, and how this gave rise to differing political fractions. He also highlighted how the international... I'm someone who's very interested in the Spanish Civil War, and Orwell's experiences during it, and my wife is interested in history in general. In short, we both found the tour to be excellent. You can tell that Nick's both a teacher and very well versed, and interested, in the subject matter. There's less walking involved than I had expected... More

Nick's tour is a detailed, passionate and insightful lesson about the civil war. We went to the sight of a few key events - Catalunya Place, following Orwell's movements when he first arrived in Barcelona etc - but is more informative than itinerant. While there are plenty of good free walking tours available for Barcelona, anyone seeking an insight into... More

If you love history, do this tour. If you don't love history, still do this tour. Have breakfast before you go; it's a long tour, but you'll only notice if you're hungry.

I came to this tour with what I felt was a basic knowledge of the events around the Spainish civil war and George Orwell's contribution but I came away from the tour with a wealth of additional knowledge and perspectives and sources to follow up. From start to finish Nick goes the extra mile to both make this event a... More

There are ghosts haunting modern day vibrant Barcelona from the not so distant past of the Spanish Civil War, and they became real to us as we walked in the footsteps of George Orwell (homage to Catalonia) led by Nick, our brilliant knowledgeable guide who runs these tours. I won't repeat what has already been said, but in my opinion... More

This is the third visit to Barcelona for my wife and I and on this occasion we toured the city with Nick Lloyd for almost 5 hours. Nick detailed an historical perspective about the Spanish Civil War in Barcelona that was well researched, interesting and passionately presented. We will never be able to view Barcelona in quite the same fashion... More

Nick is your tour guide for this extensive tour of Las Ramblas and the Gothic Quarter. Nick gives some excellent stories based on the writings of George Orwell's 'Homage To Catalonia', some fascinating stories about the war and given dramatic tension through his delivery. Nick is so knowledgeable and passionate and this comes across with every minute of the tour.... More

Staying in La Rambla

Neighbourhood Profile
La Rambla
Barcelona's most famous street was once a dry riverbed. Now, La Rambla is a 1200-metre boulevard, and a major draw for visitors. During the day, La Rambla fills with pedestrians, some of which stroll past impressive human statues and artists while others take a break to people-watch while enjoying a drink at one of the many terraces. Housed here is the iconic Boqueria Market that offers one of the most varied and appetising selections of local produce and specialty meats and treats. While it’s important for tourists to keep an eye on their belongings at all times, this area is most safely explored in the daytime and is a must see for everyone who visits.
