Not only a deeply committed effort to save the surviving memories of a pivotal moment in the twentieth century but a passionate personal engagement with history. It was by turns fun, tragic, entertaining and educational. Outstanding guide (Nick) who coped easily with a larger than usual group. Easy pace for everyone. Can't say enough about it; take this tour.

I went on this tour a week ago and it was everything I expected plus more. Nick was ill and Catherine stepped in and did a full and extensive fact and emotion-filled walk and talk. I have visited Barcelona 4 years in a row and have become interested in the war that had such an impact on Spain. I have... More

Thoroughly informed and deeply passionate, your guide (Catherine was ours) leads you through central Barcelona and the tortured history of arguably the most significant events of twentieth-century Spain. Visitors to Barcelona like us come so we can be exposed to the extraordinary and rich culture of Catalonia. But that culture is so entangled with the social and political history that... More

I went on this tour as part of University research project hoping to improve my understanding of the Spanish Civil War. The tour was very interesting and imformative. I would recommend to anyone, even if you do not have a historical background, like myself.

We came to Barcelona for the first time arriving last Sunday. We got up bright and early in order to meet Catherine at Cafe Zurich to go on the Spanish Civil War tour on Monday morning. Catherine made all the difference in our understanding of the history of Spain - its politics, culture and events leading up to, during and... More

If you're even remotely interested in Spain and its history then just take this tour. It's an incredibly interesting time and Catherine is a fantastic guide. It's also a great chance to walk through the streets and alleys of the gothic quarter and discover Barcelona with very different eyes. By the time you've stood on the plaza where the conflict... Nick was extremely knowledgeable about the Civil War and gave a very interesting tour. He included many of the facts but also the personal stories of some more known and some lesser known people involved. He answered every question posed to him with confidence and never once couldn't answer! Would highly recommend.

We joined this tour to gain a better understanding of the Spanish Civil War. We were not disappointed. Katherine our guide, was a passionate and enthusiastic speaker who somehow managed to explain this complex peice of Barcelona's history. The tour lasted several hours and involved walking to poignant areas within the city to do with the war. On the day... More

Nick has an extensive knowledge of the Spanish Civil War, the reasons for it happening and the wider implications in Europe leading into WW2. It is a very well organised tour, Nick provides extensive background information prior to the tour so those with limited know of the Spanish Civil War can do some preparation for the walk. This is not... More
