Top ways to experience Barri de La Ribera and nearby attractions

The area

Neighbourhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

While the Gothic quarter is the most famous in Barcelona, Ribera is likewise the similar historic district with a maze of narrow streets and alleys.
So, don't limit yourself, but walk further down - among many local cafes, bars, restaurants,...big attractions like Basilica Santa Maria del Mar and Picasso museum await you.

A real tourist hot spot, but it is all much of a muchness! Worth a trip once perhaps but don’t make it a highlight of your visit as there are much more interesting things to do in Barcelona. The market gives a feel for local produce and has some good tapas and takeaway food stalls. Watch out for pick pockets!

One of favorite parts of Barcelona for sure. There's such a unique and amazing vibe all around. This is a great place to wonder around in the heart of the Gothic District.

This is one of the nicest areas of Barcelona. Many buildings date from long ago, as far back as the Middle Ages. The architecture is beautiful. There are several must visit places in this area, including the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, the Picasso Museum, and others. And to top it all up, there many shops, boutiques, cafes and restaurants to cater for all tastes.

This medieval artistic neighborhood is the home of art galleries and major museums such as the Museu Picasso.

In the heart of the district is the Basilica de Santa Maria del Mar, which is the masterpiece of Catalan Gothic architecture.

You can find also many designer boutiques, bars, cafes and restaurants from this area.

Many buildings in this area which is essentially between the Gothic area and Barcoloneta are medieval and during the 13th to 15th Century this was a well to do area in Barcelona.Notable buildings include the Basilica Del Mar, a notable Gothic church and the Picasso Museum. The area leading to an including Barclenota is becoming a trendy area with many bars and restaurants and worth a stroll through

The Barri de La Ribera is a part of the Old City (Ciutat Vella) of Barcelona. Many of the buildings of this neighborhood date back to Medieval times and is littered with narrow streets and passageways that lead to countless bars, restaurants and shops. This area contains the Museum of Picasso and the Basilica of Santa Maria del Mar and other attractions. This area is not awash in tourist but is where the locals hang out. This neighborhood is a must visit. Make sure to visit the most happening bar in the area El Joo where you can catch a live xylophone performance. Jolly Chriss

Barri De La Ribera is a neighbourhood in Barcelona that is in my opinion as good if not better to visit than the magnificent Gothic Quarter .
Encompassing the Sant Pere and Ciutat Vella areas, the twisting narrow streets are packed with all manner of interesting pubs, bars, cafes, restaurants and shopping outlets, there's a real buzz to this area, come the night and you can experience the real Barcelonian night life scene,it's awesome.
The architecture in this area is also outstandingly beautiful, lots of buildings that date from the Medieval times, it really is a fantastic area to visit.
If your planning a holiday to this most vibrant of cities then o highly recommend you visit Barri De La Ribera.

La Ribera, formerly Vilanova del Mar and the centre of the stately life of the city from the 13th to 14th centuries, singularly testifies to the longstanding relationship between the city and the sea.La Ribera conserves its multi-coloured medieval urban layout ,of narrow, twisting and intertwining streets-where most of the old trades of the city were concentrated,as the names of its streets demonstrate-from which stand out, like openings in an impenetrable wood,Santa Maria del Mar,El Born or Santa Caterina.
