Lovely visit away from all the hustle and bustle of the gothic area. Although there were lots of tourists you could still sit in front of the alter and pray in peace

I'm not a huge fan of site seeing but I was staying near here and decided to go in after seeing how beautiful the outside was. I've been to Notre Dame and honestly enjoyed this more mainly because I found the gothic architecture here much more interesting. It's nowhere near as big but it is really cool inside.

Hidden away from the bustle of Las Ramblas, is the beautiful basilica of Santa Maria del Mar. With a simplistic gothic design, the basilica is a good starting point for viewing the many basilicas and cathedrals in Barcelona. Definitely opt for the tour guide for €8, who ran our session in both Spanish and English to find out the history... More

This is a beautiful cathedral, but we couldn't get in, as there were big repair works in progress. If the interior is anything like the exterior, it would be spectacular.

Another beautiful place the Church has built in Barcelona. Not as impressive as the nearby cathedral, but still great.

This is a beautiful Basilica with a towering stone interior. It is impressive in scale and beauty. The added bonus of its location in El Born just adds to the need to see this magnificent structure.

The Book the Cathedral by the Sea by Ildefonso Falcones, makes a poor description of this magnificent 14th century Basilica, the elegant conception of the space the accustics if you ever get the chance to be while a concert is going there, makes you wonder how could it be such amazing building in only 54 years finished.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
