Our guide, Pol, was so helpful, and took us all around the Cathedral and up the roof (125 steps). The church is in beautiful condition, with it's high, lofty ceiling and beautiful stained glass windows. There are several restaurants nearby that would make a good lunch stop before the tour...

Very peaceful and worth a visit. My daughter liked the church's shop to buy a few mementos. Various doors to go in and out- careful if you don't know the area.

... you walk through the door! The basilica is incredible. It was free to enter when we arrived. However, I'd have gladly paid the couple of Euros other reviewers have mentioned in previous posts. A large section to the right of the doorway chronicles the history of the church itself, and the area it's situated in. The text is in... More

The history of this building reflects a very human story of trial and triumph. Early settlers hauled building materials from the seashore to the building site to erect a soaring edifice paying tribute to the laboring class and their God. The basilica stubbornly survived numerous threats, including the Spanish Civil War. Take a guided tour to the towers that overlook... More

Being honest we didn't expect it to be that great. Localisation of the church is probably best in the city. Interior is absolutely stunning and it gets even better if you do the tour to the roof of the basilica. Our guide was really polite and well informed which helped to understand not just the history of this place but... More

The place when I knew was built by fishermen "the people" knew the reason why I felt the devotion within. The architecture is lovely with the very high ceilings and angels drawn up there. The story of this basilica is what makes it great. It lies in the old neighborhoods and I'd recommend visiting after sunset and a visit afterwards... More

We'll worth the time. It's exquisite. Our private tour guide highly recommended this. He wasn't wrong! We love the older architecture. You just can't see this type of structure in the US.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
