This district is easy to reach by the Metro. Have a guide map handy. The attraction is the varying architecture especially by the the eccentric Gaudi. Again this was in 2014

With its attractions, narrow lanes, enthusiastic crowds, cafes, shopping areas and unique ambience, L'Eixample is classic, vintage Barcelona!

On a recent stay in Barcelona I chose the L'Eixample District for a pre-cruise get away. Our hotel, The Alma made for the perfect location. There are so many things to see and do in this area. plenty of shopping, great restaurants. The Gaudi influence is everywhere.

I'm not sure about the reasons, but yes I'm sure, absolutely sure that Mr. Cerdà ,when receive the 'order' to 'plan' a new district for Barcelona has a "modernity's idea". No, it's not a mistake, before the idea was the 'modernity concept' and so he makes a really 'chef d'oeuvre' with the squared 'apples', with it's particular 'pati interior' for... More

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
