The architecture of this area is simply amazing. If you look at your feet as you walk along Passeig de Gracia, you will see the paving stones weave their marine-inspired pattern which was designed by Gaudi. Look upward, and there is a succession of stunning buildings. So much to see. So much history.

We chose a hotel in this district and we're delighted at how easy it was to get to all the attraction and sites. Familiarise yourself with the Metro system and buy a multi-journey ticket. This will get you everywhere you want to go.

We enjoy exploring this district especially with the buildings and off streets, again it does not matter if you get lost in the day time as you are on holiday.

We came for an evening and strolled around L'Eixample. A lot of interesting buildings, the majority well maintained. Don't forget to check one of the around 100 inner yards (patios) which are accessible for visitors.

The Gothic District is the soul of Barcelona, but the Gaudi buildings are worth the visit to L'Eixample. Sagrada Familia is extraordinary and a must see. Make sure you go inside. The other two Gaudi buildings on Passeig de Gracia are also worth a visit. The roads in L'Eixample are wide and open. Passeig de Gracia also has Prada-esque stores,... More

This district is easy to reach by the Metro. Have a guide map handy. The attraction is the varying architecture especially by the the eccentric Gaudi. Again this was in 2014

Staying in Eixample

Neighbourhood Profile
Eixample
Passing through the glorious Plaça Catalunya, you enter the newer city district of Eixample, literally translated as “extension,” which immediately becomes recognisable by its more spacious streets and elegant atmosphere. The main artery of this sizable district, Passeig de Gracia, is lined with high-end international designer stores. Not to be outdone, the glitz and glamour of this zone is perhaps best exemplified by the comfortable and lavish five-star hotels that flank the divine and modernistic buildings from some of the world’s most recognised architects such as Gaudi and Montaner.
