The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Barceloneta
Originally a fisherman’s quarter, this quaint area can’t escape its small village feel: laundry hanging over the narrow streets, old ladies clamoring at each other from their balconies and elder gentlemen playing games on short wooden benches gossiping the day away, Barceloneta could double as a film set. Artists line the boardwalk displaying their magnificently detailed sand structures making this the most visited beach in the city (the shirtless men working out might help too). You’ll know by the delicious aroma that you're in the right place to try some of the best and most authentic seafood including paella, Spain’s national dish.

- cookie1010Montreal, Canada189 contributionsNice city beachNice beach considering it is in the city. The sand is mostly coverred with small pebbles so not that confortable to walk on. The beach was packed when I went, even though it was in September. There were jelly fish in the water, which I didn't expect so did not take care to keep away from them. I was stung several times, the pain goes away in an hour or so.Visited September 2023Travelled soloWritten 7 October 2023

Was spoiled by the amount of hagglers trying to sell drinks - ice cold beer, margaritas, mojitos, water. You hear this constantly which is a bit annoying when you are trying to relax on the beach. There are some beaches further along with not so many sellersVisited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 October 2023
- Rich L5 contributionsA Good Escape from City CenterWe certainly did enjoy our visit to the beach at Barceloneta a little over a week ago. From our hotel downtown we found it easy to catch a bus that took us right to the beach. Arriving there in time for lunch we were quickly able to secure a table at one of the many beachfront cafes. From there we had a front row table and it gave a view directly onto the beach. We had a light lunch including a couple of beers and had a great time soaking up the beach atmosphere. After about an hour there, we walked the boardwalk for another hour observing the sights and sounds of the charming beach. There is a lot to do in the area so we recommend you plan to spend an hour or two there.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 October 2023

As many will say, it's also an urban dwellers beach where people come to pose, be seen, exercise, swim, sunbathe, eat, drink and be merry...and generally get away from city life even though it's just 15-20 minutes on a bus or tram to be back in the thick of central Barcelona. One thing I really liked about Barceloneta, more so than the beach itself which is vast (and needs to be for a city with 3 million+ people excluding tourists), is the fact that you really do feel like you've left the main part of the city and entered a seaside resort when you come here. Yes, it's busier and not nearly as relaxed as some coastal resorts, but it's still got a decent vibe and I quite liked it. Plenty of places to eat and drink, in semi off-peak season (early October) it was still busy but felt like it was a more pleasant pace and like there was more space and friendliness in the air. I wouldn't say this would be a beach of choice for me, but the area as a whole is a nice escape from the continuous craziness of Barcelona itself and the fact it's so easy to get to from the centre of Barcelona is a real bonus and this is why so many people love this city as it's on the coast and has beaches...albeit I still prefer Madrid! Then again, I prefer the smaller cities in Spain to Madrid, so that's irrelevant!Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 11 January 2024

The beach is typical, not a gorgeous Caribbean beach, but would be fine for sunbathing and swimming in warmer times. There is an outdoor bar with food and drink, priced higher than what you can get in other areas of Barcelona, but with a view of the ocean which is right in front of you. There are port a potties for restrooms, which are kind of gross, but necessary. I would skip this if I visited Barcelona again; there's too much to see that is much better.Visited April 2024Travelled with familyWritten 8 April 2024
- Family5GetAwaySt. John's, Canada320 contributionsChalking our experience up to poor timing. We visited Barcelona in mid-April, so knew it would not be as nice at the beach as in warmer months. However, based on our research, I still thought it would be fun to spend some time at the beach even if it was just sitting down at a beach-front restaurant. Unfortunately the day we came here it was very windy down by the beach as compared to within the city, which dampened the experience. There were still a lot of people walking around the boardwalk, but not much was open. As well, there seemed to be a lot of garbage along the beach so we did not go down onto the sand. We did not stay long, and ended up getting a bus elsewhere and eating there. During the summer months, I am sure it is a more pleasurable experience, but for us it was not worth the time it took to get there in mid-April.Visited April 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 16 May 2024

Relax and get away from bustling Barcelona.
The beach is nice and clean and spacious for sun bathers, exercising and people watching.
Take metro to Barceloneta stop or metro bus L19 and free minutes walk to beach. Restaurants and sales stop along the way.
Nice to see clean sand and almost somewhat blue water.
I’m sure it can be very pack during summer peak season and can’t be crazy but at least you can spy and people watch

The beach is easy to get to from the city centre via metro. It’s about a 10 minute walk from there. It was the end of April and it was busy, but I wouldn’t say it was too busy due to it being early in the season. It will probably be far busier from next month onwards. It wasn’t that easy to take a long stroll on the beach as many places were cordoned off, but I think they were just preparing the area for the main part of the tourist season. It’s a shame they couldn’t have finished before Easter. Still, I did manage to get a nice walk in and found a place to sit down on a stone walkway to look out at the sea, which was nice. It’s definitely calmer here than the city centre, but I did find beaches on the Costa Brava nearby calmer. I’d actually recommend you go for a day trip there if you can. There were restaurants all along the beach front and they were all very busy and full. I struggled to get a table, and when I did manage to get one, they needed it back in an hour, so I only had time for a drink and a light bite. The one thing I didn’t like was all the sellers on the beach that pester you. I’m on holiday to relax and unwind - not to be pestered by people like these. I don’t understand how they’re allowed to get away with it. It’s not a good look for the area either. Still, it is a nice beach. Definitely worth a visit if you need to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and can’t get to a beach out of the city.

I didn't know that Barcelona had a city beach which was great to go to as have done all the usual tourist things and places to go. Walked off the Britannia cruise liner and headed for this beach. Lots of cafes next to it and also a supermarket which sold hot snacks and beers. There was a toilet block and thankfully I went late morning as think it would be really messy after a whole day with all the people on the beach, or maybe the majority would use the sea?? Bought a lovely large Indian type cotton blanket from the beach hawkers which let us have a massage on it from the massage ladies. Great few hours spent there then leisurely walk back to ship.

Loved the beach. Went on two separate days during our stay in Barcelona. One day mid way along the beach - a lovely afternoon with some hawkers selling beer, water, drinks, blankets etc. Said no thank you a couple of times. No problem. The second day we were nearer to port Vell. It was completely spoiled by number of hawkers continually asking you to buy things. There were so many. Watched them with some younger couples - some became quite intimidating. Struggled to relax because of them. Such a shame. Wouldn’t visit this part again. Hopefully authorities can find a way to control this before it puts others off coming.

They have dedicated nudist beaches, but this isn’t one of them. However, I saw quite a few people who had no problems getting down to nothing while rinsing off, etc. This is clearly a custom in Spain, so we just went on about our day 😂

Um, your question is placed under "Barceloneta Beach" which is located in Barcelona, about 2 hours drive from Cambrils. Anyone that has visited Barceloneta Beach has not necessarily been to Cambrils, so you may not get the answer you need. Can I suggest you re-enter your query under "Cambrils" instead. Good luck.
