About
Uncovering the Past, Present and Future of the Cannabis PlantThe Hemp Museum Gallery is located in the centre of Barcelona in the Palau Mornau, a stunning edifice built in the 15th century, which was remodeled by modernist architect Raspall in 1908. It offers a unique permanent exhibition, on the development of the cannabis plant as a versatile source for industrial, nutritional, medicinal, sacramental and recreational purposes. The collection consists of rare items that founder Ben Dronkers, over the past forty years, collected throughout the world. The museum focuses on modern citizens, who despite repressive government measures, are not deterred, to gain knowledge about this particular plant independently.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Informative and insightful.
If using the audio guide via a smartphone/QR code, it can be a bit confusing identifying what items you're looking at or supposed to be in - they weren't clearly numbered and so I found myself spinning in circles a couple times.
Really interesting though and as coffee shops have opened up in town, always good to get a little context.
If you have an hour spare, worth a visit.

The price of €9 is a little steep considering that this museum is on the smaller side. The audioguide was fantastic and gave a lot of info that I would've missed out on. The museum covers the history of Marijuana and hemp from ancient times, the wars, to pop culture. There is a large collection of glass bongs some of which are nothing less than pieces of pure art. The section on the history of hemp was really fascinating, and even the section about the legality of marijuana was more information than lobbying. However, the exhibit on how marijuana affects the body was very lacking and spoke more about CBD oil than marijuana itself.

Thank you so much for this nice place. I hope the time will arise, that people smoke their weed in peace. As the museum shows, there is a long and rich tradition of doing so. This helps to get founded knowledge beyond of just lobbying. It gets clear, that there is no real argument against liberalization. Instead the question arises which lobby prevent legalization and why. It was much more to see than possible, as the museum contains a lot of art and music, but also background information more than possible to read.

A different and good experience. Good collection of pieces. The audio book and the placement of the pieces could be better.
