About
Can Framis is the latest Fundació Vila Casas museum. Opened in April 2009 in Barcelona, it has around 300 works on show dating from the 1960’s onwards by a wide range of artists born or living in Catalonia. Temporary exhibitions are held at the Can Framis Espai A0. Can Framis, a factory built at the end of the 18th century, was originally owned by the Framis family. Over the years it fell into disuse, becoming a monument to the industry of the area. Today, as a Museum of Contemporary Painting, it is an ideal place for the contemplation of art located in Poble Nou, now converted into the technological district of Barcelona and renamed 22@. The conversion of the building was undertaken by the BAAS architectural practice.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

We had a lovely visit and really enjoyed it. Sadly, this gem museum of talented but mostly little known artists does not seem to get the attention it deserves. We were the only ones there on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. That is tragic. Support the arts!

In the superb setting of a former textile factory, an absorbing selection of contemporary Catalan art is here to be perused and appreciated.

Across a couple of floors art work after work are a great reflection of the best of current artistic output.

An intriguing sculpture by Jaume Plensa in the courtyard is an apt harbinger for the expressions within.

Josep Guinovart features with great works, including an untitled 2007 piece that part comprises broken white egg shells. Ramon Casas's Entry into a Madrid Plaza is filled with narrative detail.

More abstract pieces are plentiful, including Mound of Mysteries by Julio Vaquero and SP211 by Yago Hortal dating from 2018.

This is a great place to visit - over 250 pieces in the collection plus a temporary exhibition. We enjoyed the contemporary art work very much. Also, check the website for hours since some Barcelona museums are closed on Mondays or Tuesdays. A little hard to find the entrance from the street, depending on which street you are entering from!

The museum Can Framis is situated in the new district of Barcelona named 22@.This new area has transformed the old industrial area to a new hi-tech district. The building really deserves a visit as it combines the old factory and its restoration with the new part in an interesting way. As it concerns the exhibition, it is amazing with a numerous pieces of art and a very well curated. It is worth a visit.

Great way to spend a morning or afternoon in an intriguing part of the city, off the tourist radar, but easily reachable by subway (Glories). First-rate architecture, by Studio BAAS, and good contemporary art, painting and sculpture, by Catalan artists. You can easily spend a couple of hours here, then continue to Rambla de Poblenou to have lunch, tapas or dinner at the charming Can Recasens, for "torrades" toasts with ham or cheese or "tablas" a selection of dried meats and cheeses.

Had some time to spare while staying in the area.
Modern art is not really our thing but this was well presented, organized, informative, and different.
Glad we spent the time.

This Museum is closed. There's no notification hanging out why nor an English notification on their website. 2 for the building. -3 for the poor information.

This is one of the most exciting and beautiful buildings I've seen in the last couple of years. Architect Jordi Badia did an amazing job, with lots of sensibility to both the industrial heritage and the landscape. If you're an architect, then this museum is a must.

We visited this gallery as the Meam art museum was closed as they were changing exhibitions. This was to our benefit as this is an excellent museum of Spanish art of the 21st century. The building itself is wonderful with high ceilings and lots of life excellent for showing these wonderful paintings. As this gallery is not well know it was quiet we had the place to ourselves to take our time and enjoy the wonderful art. I would recommend if you enjoy modern art to search out this marvellous gallery.
