This is where it all happens at New Year. At midnight on the 31st December, there is a fantastic firework show and the atmosphere is jovial and fun. At other times, the fountains are lovely and easy to navigate. If you don't want to use the stairs there are escalators to help out. It's a vast area and from the... More

What a wonderful sight. The whole spectacle of the fountains, the light show and even the vendors around the area make this a must visit when in Barcelona.

Impressive fountain show however the accompanying backing music was muffled and in part inaudible - the tunes were good it was just that you could not hear them. The 'show' lasted around 20 minutes in a very impressive setting and is free - worth a look

Fantastic visit! Fountain show is definitely worth a visit. And it's FREE! It is a beautiful experience and the museum building behind is beautifully lit up also. Nearest metro is Espanya, just a short walk up. Good street entertainment after the show has finished nearby! We walked to a nearby shopping centre called Arenas De Barcelona to have a bite... More

Have visited barcelona a number of times now and can't believe it's my first time to see this fantastic attraction . Big crowds gathered so get there early if you can ( if you're driving be extra vigilant at the 7 lane roundabout ! )

It is a must see free of cost show in barcelona, it was really great and mesmerising for the viewer's eyes. I can still remember the colors.

The fountain/s have coloured lights at night time, but aren't on for very long. During the day the actual fountains weren't always on so you could miss them. At the top end of Rambla.

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
