Luckily we were at Barcelona on a week end in June. As we were staying in the hotel Catalonia Plaza, this show was almost bang opposite. By evening the crowds had started. So we also joined them and started towards The Montjuic Hill. This show is held at the foot of the Hill. There are a number of fountains including... More

Assume it would be impressive when working, unfortunately for us it was not on when we visited which was a shame.

We liked very much the view and the lights and water show. It was quite hard to concentrate to the show because every 2-3 minutes an ambulant seller asked us if we want water, beer or juices. It seems that the local police is making efforts to stop them but is totally inefficient.

Nice free show and something different to do. The fountain play music and light every 30 minutes from 1900 in the winter till 2030.

The area is alive with activity. Very crowded, but press through and see the fountain from all angles. Especially head up the esculators towards the museum to get a view from above.

The persons selling beer-cerveza-agua become really annoying after half an hour, but the display and setting were entertaining if a little cheesy, but good fun. The kids will like it

We've sat here a couple of times after a day full of activity. Walk up the stairs up to the museum for a great look over the city. Just sit down, buy a beer off one of the streetvendors there to save a lot of money. Take in the views and enjoy.

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
