Neighbourhood: Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the centre, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theatre that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.

- JRMADAUnited States3,371 contributionsBeautiful HouseThis is a beautiful house with some interesting and unusual design features. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The ticket we purchased included a caramel roll at the end, and it was very flavorful… We went in early afternoon on a week day and the place was practically empty, so it does not look like a lot of people know about it. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is pricing. This is still expensive at €21 per person. The price of admission would have been fair at €12-€14 specially with other places like Guell Palace which is far more beautiful and has more to offer for €12. The Catalan Music Palace costs €16 and has a lot more to offer than here also. Of all the Gaudi properties we visited (worth seeing) and liked, this one is the most humble (simple) and last on our list. If you are pressed for time, it is ok to skip it…Dear JRMADA, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. We're glad to know you enjoyed visiting Casa Vicens and discovering Gaudi's first house. Regarding the price, let us indicate, that the regular ticket with the audioguide included is 18€ but you chose the visit with audioguide + a cinnamon roll that is 21€. Also, Casa Vicens does not receive any type of public aid or subsidy, therefore the amount of each ticket, not higher than that of other facilities, allows this commitment and daily opening to be possible. We hope to see you soon at Casa Vicens! - J P48 contributionsGreat alternative to the crowds at La PedreraWe really enjoyed this tour of Gaudi’s first commission. The audio tour is very good, there is a short video in English, Catalan, and Spanish, and there were no crowds as this is tucked away off the usual tourist trail in Graciá neighborhood. Lovely little garden and interesting rooftop.Dear visitor, Thanks for posting your feedback. We booked the English-guided tour, and this was the best part. Without a story to support this piece of art, this first house of Gaudi cannot be fully enjoyed. Unique structures, beautiful artworks, extraordinary ideas. A must-visit in Barcelona.Dear Visitor, Thank you for sharing your experience with us! We booked a tour and I was pleasantly surprised to see we were in a small group of 8 people (4 couples) all from different parts of the world.
Our guide was very knowledgeable, friendly and entertaining. If we had just walked around the house I don’t think it would have been half as memorable an experience.
We were shown old photos of the property, how it had changed, developed and we learned about the social history of the house as well as Gaudi’s design. This smaller property was really enjoyable to visit.
I’d highly recommend the tour.

Amazing experience. The house is beautiful and captures and transmits Gaudi's spirit and love for nature. The audio guide is very clear and complete, and the staff is super friendly. I highly recommend it, it is a delightful visit.

Tour guide was excellent ( English speaking) and gave us interesting historical information about not only Gaudi but particularly about the house, it’s growth and incantations and the restoration. A relatively small part of the house has been restored but it’s beautiful and the staff are well acquainted with the details.

An informative details about the architecture, culture and history of the time. without this tour, we might have missed a lot of details - while they were beautiful it was nice to know the context behind things. We are Gaudí lovers and enjoyed seeing a tour of this house, an early work that showcased his ideas that would go on to be exemplified in many other works in Barcelona!

This is a quaint, quiet and colourful place. It’s a contrast to its more crowded cousins. Great place to get some nice pictures. There’s a QR code that explains everything room by room. The team is nice too ❤️

I love the Gaudi architecture and on my second visit to Barcelona, I was really keen to see some more. This tour was brilliant, not too long so kept the attention of my kids, but equally informative and generated lots of things to talk about afterwards.
We couldn’t get booked onto the guided tour, so went around ourselves listening to the audio guide on our phones. This worked really well. There were staff around who were more than happy to answer questions.
Thank you

This was a nice surprise! I found it yesterday when I knew we couldn't see Palau Guell on Monday because it is closed.
We went today. It is a block and a half from the Fontana (green line) metro.
We paid 20.50 Euros each to enter. It is Gaudi's first house that he was a part of.
We were able to buy tickets and audio guide on your phone when we arrived. Bring headphones. They do have English and Spanish tours if you plan ahead.
It was so nice to go and not have to fight a crowd! They have a cafe there as well and you pay 1 Euro to store your backpack.
Thank you for restoring this home and opening it in 2017!!!

Dear yyyyyy,
We dearly suggest you take advantage of the cosy bar and terrace you will find inside Casa Vicens: Café Hofmann. We are sure you will enjoy all of the delicacies you can try over there while having a look to Casa Vicen's magnificent façade.
We kindly remind you ticket is mandatory for gaining access to both the house and the garden (were Café Hofmann is located).

It can be enough. We spent longer because we watched the movie, looked outside, looked at a very interesting exhibit about other architects and took many, many pictures. Plus, we move a little slowly. Oh, we also asked a lot of questions as we are big Gaudi fans. Indeed, this house will be most interesting to people who love Gaudi and much less so to those who don't. Enjoy your trip. Barcelona is a magical place.

There is a ticket office inside the building, prior to the visit entrance, so they should sell tickets.
Another thing is that Casa Vicens tries to sell online as many tickets as possible.

Bonjour !

How long is a guided tour vs going through the house on your own?
JJJC_Family
Virginia808 contributions
We did not take a guided tour, because there are employees in almost every room glad to answer any questions you have and they will stay as long as you have questions. We spent much longer than we thought because there was an exhibit about other architects that I found fascinating and because we asked a lot of questions and then we walked through a second time and we took a lot of pictures. On the other hand, you could breeze through in 15 minutes. We spent perhaps 1.5 - 2 hours. How long depends on your level of interest. My assumption is that someone who goes there is extremely interested. Otherwise, there is no reason to see it. Enjoy yourself.
