Neighbourhood: Gracia
Gracia literally stands out from the pack. It used to be an independent town until late into the 19th century. Though it’s just a short commute away from the centre, a visit here feels like you’re in a whole different city. The bohemian vibe has drawn many international artists to this area, resulting in a wide selection of galleries, live music and artsy boutique stores. The nightlife is centered around the vibrant Gracia’s plaças, where young and old gather to enjoy a drink outside. Carrer de Verdi, its main street, offers affordable restaurants and a movie theatre that screens new as well as classic films in their original language. However Gracia's greatest treasure lies just up the hill at Guell Park, where Antoni Gaudi's vibrant and revolutionary art sculptures stand atop unequaled views of Barcelona.

Tiles and mosaics are on the exterior, interior and the rooftop. Rooftop features a walkway around all 4 sides with decorative caps for the chimneys.Dear Margie, Thank you for sharing your experience with us. - Trek025935621431 contributionSuper lovelyI just bought a ticket 1 hour before visiting via the official site. When I arrived 15 min earlier I could enter the building and there wasn’t a line at all. You have to store you rucksack in a locker, you need 1 euro for this. You get the euro back. But I think it is nescesarry to know this before. The audio guide was included, what was really nice. I learned a lot. And the views of the building are just amazing. The garden is also very peaceful. I think when I was there I only saw 20 other people. So not busy at all. Since there is a lot of the audiotour I recommend to go on a day without rain.Dear visitor, Thank you for sharing your review with us. We are delighted to know that you had a great experience at Casa Vicens and that our audio guide service helped you to know all the secrets of the first house of Gaudi. - SteviefullKidderminster, United Kingdom2,089 contributionsYou Can Never Have Enough GaudiOn our way back to the city centre from Torre Bellesguard we walked the 30 minutes (mainly because we couldn't get a taxi) to Casa Vicens for another dose of Gaudi. Very different to Bellesguard in that there is a lot of colour throughout Casa Vicens as opposed to the more 'cement' look of Bellesguard. This being Gaudis first design you can see its influences of his later buildings Casa Batllo and Mila with his signature nature influence and colours. The route throughout the building is straightforward, starting in the gardens you go up throught the building room by room onto the roof which in usual Gaudi style is a highlight. When we arrived we were told it was online booking only so got our phones out and booked tickets there and then and walked in, which seemed a little silly but there you go. Another fantastic building to visit in Barcelona, at 18 euro a person it is a little on the expensive side but you only have to do it once.Dear visitor, Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. We are delighted to know that you enjoyed your time at Casa Vicens discovering all the secrets of the Gaudi first house. Regarding the price of the ticket, let us indicate that Casa Vicens does not receive any type of public aid or subsidy, therefore the amount of each ticket, allows this commitment and daily opening to be possible. We weren’t sure the price was worth it, but we were all so glad we visited. It was one of the highlights of our trip. It was even more beautiful in the inside. As with most attractions, even better before the crowds, we arrived just before it opened. We spent nearly 2hrs here.Dear visitor, Thank you for posting your review. - David Tam34 contributionsA joyful experience.I would suggest anyone visiting Barcelona for the first time to have a visit to this first house of Gaudi. The house was interesting and accessible. There are also different information concerning the history of the house and Gaudi. The staff there were also friendly and helpful. Finally, a €3 gift coupon was provided for use at their souvenir store, which made the visit all the more merrier.Dear Visitor, Thank you for sharing your review with us. The building is utterly stunning. It is out of the way but worth the trip. Not as crowded as Battlo and some other Gaudi buildings and the workers were friendly. There is a nice cafe. - Monica CottoneBergamo, Italy5,841 contributionsA hidden pearl, Gaudì's first workThis is the first house designed by the architect Gaudi, for me a hidden pearl. Ticket purchased online, €18, There was no crowd at the entrance, partly because the house is among the least known and partly because it is slightly outside the center (about 15-20 minutes from Avveniva Diagonal-Casa Batlò). An audio guide is provided that accompanies the visitor through the beautiful rooms arranged on several floors, without furniture but with original floors and ceilings. You go up to the roof, also designed by Gaudì and partly accessible on foot. There are also original documents autographed by Gaudì. The garden features a small cafe. Lots of details to admire, including the gate that divides the house from the street. Inside the house, to go up the various floors there is an elevator for those who have problems climbing stairs Free luggage storage but with euros to be inserted to activate the key In the semi-basement floor there is the book shop.Dear visitor, Thank you for sharing your feedback. - Adriana GCuritiba, PR228 contributionsA hidden gem!Wonderful and surprising house in every room you enter. You can follow the tour using the audio guide that you download right at the entrance - it helps a lot to understand Gaudí's inspirations for building the house, the historical moment in Spain when it was built and who the family was that commissioned the project. It's really worth it, even if you're not an architect or work with anything like that.Dear visitor, Thank you for sharing your review with us. However, it was a really lovely experience! The explanations provided by the audio guide were great and this house is a true architectural wonder! Also loved the exhibit showcasing houses by Gaudi's comtemporaries as well as the presentation of the history of the house.Dear visitor, Thank you very much for your kind words. Contrary to the flashy exterior, the interior has a calm atmosphere.
The veranda on the first floor and the veranda of the ladies' salon on the second floor are particularly comfortable, and I felt that they had thought carefully about how to make it a comfortable summer home.

This is Gaudí's first major work, which he began to perform while still a student. Like all the Master’s creations, this house is unique and inimitable. Anyone interested in Gaudi's works should definitely visit and take an audio guide.

I’ve been coming to Barcelona regularly for over 20 years and this is the first time I’ve come to Casa Vicens. It was an amazing experience - I loved everything about it. The building itself and the decorative work are wonderful and I especially appreciated the exhibition which showed models of houses by other well known architects in the same period. The downloadable guide was also very good and staff were friendly and helpful. It was relatively quiet which really helped to get a feel for the building. Highly recommended

Not sure why my wife and I were charged 44 Euros for the basic, self-guided tour. They can apparently be bought for much, much less. On their official website prices are between 18 and 20 Euros each. We went at 1425hrs on Friday 15/11/24. I feel like we have been scammed.

Thanks for sharing your review. We regret that you were not satisfied with the price of the visit, we inform you that Casa Vicens does not receive any type of public aid or subsidy, so the amount of each ticket, not higher than that of other centers, allows this commitment and opening daily as possible. On the other hand, we inform you that online tickets are a little cheaper, but you are charged administration fees at the end of the purchase. The amount ends up being similar.

Guided tour in Spanish. We were two people. The guide was great and we were able to enjoy the entire tour interacting with our guide. An enjoyment and a great learning. I recommend it, it is the unknown Gaudi, his first work in which his genius was already noted.

We loved our visit to Casa Vicens - the first house that Gaudi designed. It was so beautiful and you really got a sense of Gaudi as a visionary. The house is a burst of color and pattern that exudes joy. We spent about a little over an hour there. It is also a great value compared to some of the other Gaudi homes you can tour. Overall I highly recommend Casa Vicens

This is a beautiful house with some interesting and unusual design features. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The ticket we purchased included a caramel roll at the end, and it was very flavorful… We went in early afternoon on a week day and the place was practically empty, so it does not look like a lot of people know about it. My reason for 4 stars and not 5 is pricing. This is still expensive at €21 per person. The price of admission would have been fair at €12-€14 specially with other places like Guell Palace which is far more beautiful and has more to offer for €12. The Catalan Music Palace costs €16 and has a lot more to offer than here also. Of all the Gaudi properties we visited (worth seeing) and liked, this one is the most humble (simple) and last on our list. If you are pressed for time, it is ok to skip it…

This was a nice surprise! I found it yesterday when I knew we couldn't see Palau Guell on Monday because it is closed.
We went today. It is a block and a half from the Fontana (green line) metro.
We paid 20.50 Euros each to enter. It is Gaudi's first house that he was a part of.
We were able to buy tickets and audio guide on your phone when we arrived. Bring headphones. They do have English and Spanish tours if you plan ahead.
It was so nice to go and not have to fight a crowd! They have a cafe there as well and you pay 1 Euro to store your backpack.
Thank you for restoring this home and opening it in 2017!!!

I love the Gaudi architecture and on my second visit to Barcelona, I was really keen to see some more. This tour was brilliant, not too long so kept the attention of my kids, but equally informative and generated lots of things to talk about afterwards.
We couldn’t get booked onto the guided tour, so went around ourselves listening to the audio guide on our phones. This worked really well. There were staff around who were more than happy to answer questions.

It can be enough. We spent longer because we watched the movie, looked outside, looked at a very interesting exhibit about other architects and took many, many pictures. Plus, we move a little slowly. Oh, we also asked a lot of questions as we are big Gaudi fans. Indeed, this house will be most interesting to people who love Gaudi and much less so to those who don't. Enjoy your trip. Barcelona is a magical place.

There is a ticket office inside the building, prior to the visit entrance, so they should sell tickets.
Another thing is that Casa Vicens tries to sell online as many tickets as possible.

How long is a guided tour vs going through the house on your own?
Written 23 April 2019
We did not take a guided tour, because there are employees in almost every room glad to answer any questions you have and they will stay as long as you have questions. We spent much longer than we thought because there was an exhibit about other architects that I found fascinating and because we asked a lot of questions and then we walked through a second time and we took a lot of pictures. On the other hand, you could breeze through in 15 minutes. We spent perhaps 1.5 - 2 hours. How long depends on your level of interest. My assumption is that someone who goes there is extremely interested. Otherwise, there is no reason to see it. Enjoy yourself.
