Ive bin here a couple of times, i love to come here because the feeling is so authentic - you get a beer or a pastis and in the background is there nice music usually edith piaf its like being in a time warp. a little tip: if there is a football game on then go there and watch it... More

I get the 5 star and the 1 star reviews but not the 2, 3, 4 stars. You have to fall in love with this crazy bar the moment you walk in the door or flee in disgust. I love it. The New York Times reviewed this in 1990 before they cleaned up the Raval and commented on the trans... More

First up, if you want the owner to greet you with a skip and a dance, go somewhere else. He doesn't really care if you're there or not. Having said that, the place does have a charm and I would love to go back when there is a singer on. Has to be better then a La Ramblas bar!

We stumbled on Bar Pastis after experiencing a very good but very short and maybe a little touristy Flamenco show. Bar Pastis is tiny and very hot (the air con is very noisy and was only turned on when the heat got unbearable). The amount of bar tat on the walls including a full sized mannequin on the ceiling also... More

My husband and I, as I write this are currently sitting 4 floors above this bar in a rented apartment on our last night of a work/holiday in Barcelona. We have been in the bar twice for drinks prior to retiring up the wooden hill next door. This bar is an unsanitised and totally authentic drinking shop, run by a... More

This is supposed to be a traditional old-time Barcelona bar/café, but don't go here. The drinks are very expensive and the service is awful. The place is supposed to have character, but what it really is, is a dump. Just don't bother. There are so many fun things to do in Barcelona, don't waste your time here.

If you are looking for something truly charming then you have to visit Bar Pastis. Stepping inside the door is like stepping back in time. Fantastic relaxed atmosphere coupled with great music. Drinks are reasonable considering the history oozing from every crevice. The barman has been described in previous reviews as grumpy...I beg to differ. While quite standoffish in the... More

We had a jolly time at Bar Pastis. It was not yet busy so not crowded, though you can see it would not take many bodies to create a crowd in this tiny French-inspired bar. Yet live music goes on here, locals and tourists rub elbows here, and history is dripping from every pore of the establishment. Decades-old tchotchkes, seriously-patina'd... More

Staying in El Raval

Neighbourhood Profile
El Raval
Once a downtrodden corner of downtown Barcelona, this gritty area has seen a cultural resurgence boasting an excellent nightlife and one of the most multi ethnic spots in the entire city. A sense of humble authenticity protrudes from the many independent record stores, second hand shops, and student bars that seem to light up the streets day and night. The rocking epicenter, the MACBA Plaça, is a modern day forum for bohemian youth, abuzz with the sights and sounds of late-night gatherings and talented skateboarders showing off their latest tricks.
