We booked a number of tours with Barcelona Slow Travel - including a markets tour, a trip to Montserrat that included stops at a winery and olive oil farm, and a Hidden Gaudi tour. We even made New Years Eve Dinner with Guillermo and Christina. Guillermo, Christina and Macarena were all lovely, informative, fun and really shared their Barcelona with us. We came away from our week with a much greater appreciation for Barcelona than we would have gotten on our own, and we would highly recommend working with them whatever your needs are in Barcelona. Every experience was exactly as advertised and better than expected!!!

Such a wonderful day! Marta picked us up from our apartment right on time and took us to two lovely family owned vineyards. The owners were friendly and welcoming and spent time really explaining and sharing their wines. Lunch in the sunshine overlooking the vineyards with wonderful hosts was magical. We wanted to spend the day sharing in the culture of the region and did just that! Many thanks to Guillermo and Marta for making the magic happen!

The highlight of our Barcelona trip was the Morning Market Tour with Guillermo. It was so much fun to experience the market with a local that could explain the different foods and answer any questions while we sampled. Following the market, we walked to a small bodega and had tapas and wine. We then spent some time going through local shops and tasting iberian ham and olive oil before ending with a spectacular lunch at Gatblau. Guillermo ordered a variety of local favorites that highlighted traditional Catalan preparations with a unique twist. My mom has celiac disease and Guillermo made sure we knew if every item had gluten or not and he adjusted the tour to increase the number of items my mom could safely eat. We went into the day knowing she may not be able to sample everything but it was a wonderful surprise to find that he had made such an effort to accommodate her. We learned so much about Catalan culture and food and ended the experience very well fed!
Everything we had was absolutely delicious and we all really enjoyed our time and conversation with Guillermo. We were only in Barcelona for a few days but we hope to return in the future and will definitely book another tour with Barcelona Slow Travel!

We took a biking wine tour with Barcelona Slow Travel in July 2018. While it's been a few years, I realized I had never left a review. My husband and I still talk about how great this tour was. It was so well-planned, the biking was fun and the countryside beautiful. The guide was knowledgeable, the price was right. They also provided a delicious lunch!
Although we signed up for the group tour, we were the only ones on the trip. We really appreciated that they didn't cancel due to low numbers, which other companies do. Thank you so much, Barcelona Slow Travel, for a wonderful experience!

The couple was welcoming as the cooking class was in their home and was informative about things to do in Barcelona. My girlfriend stated 2 or 3 days before when we made the reservation that she did not like seafood. Many of the tapas we prepared had some type of seafood in them, therefore she did not get to participate in making the food. A couple others were the same way. This was extremely overpriced for what we got out of the whole experience. While they disclose that they eat with you it felt as though we paid to come over and make them dinner. We felt it would have been more professional if they would have not ate with us and gave us more history about tapas and their relevance to Barcelona's culture and history.

Dear Lyndsay,
Thank you for taking the time to reviewing us twice, both under your name and your boyfriend's name (Nathan).
I would like to repeat the apologies that I've made to you during the cooking experience. As I've told you then, Cristina and I didn't know seafood also referred to fish in English as in the other languages we speak, it does not refer to fish. That is why we thought that by replacing one dish of seafood by fish, we would make everyone happy. We have learned that now, and we will take it into consideration for the future.
Concerning the other guests you mentioned that were not eating seafood (there were 2 more), one of them did not say anything when he made the booking and clearly said it was fine during the dinner since he didn't mention that and that there was plenty of food on the table. And the second guest told us that she was vegetarian eating fish when booking, which confirmed the choice that we've made of changing the seafood by the fish Tapa. We decided to keep 1 seafood tapa for the other guests to taste the fresh seafood we have in Barcelona, and unlike what you claim, most of the people loved it that night.
Now I'm very concerned about the rest of your comments, as it seems you clearly missed out the whole concept of the experience. Let me apologize about it not being clearly enough advertised and try to reexplain it quickly here: we are not a conventional cooking class, neither a restaurant. We are doing cooking experiences in our home, with the aim of immersing travellers in the real Barcelona atmosphere. For that we bring up a small group of strangers together for a unique experience, where they will cook together with us traditional Catalan recipes using local and artisanal ingredients, most of them handpicked and organic. We source gourmet olive oils, handmade sea salts, organic herbs and local wines straight from small local producers, we buy fresh organic fruits and vegetables to a local producer, that we also personally know. We buy seafood and other delicacies at our local market, el Mercat del Ninot (we also organize tours there) which is famous all around Barcelona amongst locals to have the best quality of food. We also provide a unique environment, with our furniture being mostly recycled by us (DIY) and we make our own natural cleaning products to use before, during and after the events we host. Our goal is to provide a unique experience to each and every person that comes across our road, all of it while respecting the environment, enpowering the local economy and having a (very) good time.
During the experience you signed up for, the Tapas Cooking Experience, we prepared 10 different Tapas, including starters, dessert and 6 main tapas. We also provided wine and mineral water during the whole experience (which lasted 4 hours).
I'd like to finally add my own version of what happened that night, which is not at all reflected by your comments and which in my opinion should be clarified. From the moment you entered our home, you showed some attitude towards the other guests present that night, and created a heavy atmosphere. You stepped out of the group several times during the evening, and were constantly whispering comments to your boyfriend. We did not put seafood in all the dishes, as you claim, only in 2 of them out of 10. The real problem was that you were extremely picky, not liking many of the dishes we prepared. Of course this can easily become problematic when making a cooking experience in a different country, as most of the dishes we cook are most probably very different to what you are used to. Altough don't misunderstand me, the vast majority of people that we received had no problem at all eating the tapas we prepared, as we never cook "weird stuff" (or at least not more than 1 dish for adventurers) and prefer mild flavours in Catalan gastronomy. If you are neither wanting to mix up with new and interesting people, nor to try any new type of food, which are exactly what our Tapas Cooking experience is about, then I agree with you: our experience is overpriced for what you can get out of it.
However, we take your comment seriously regarding the seafood issue, and have decided to add a vegetarian tapa for the next time we receive people not eating seafood. We are interested in having everyone and every tastebuds enjoy our experience, which is why we offer alternatives for gluten free, vegetarians, vegans, lactose free, etc... We have done it since we started almost 2 years ago, and have only seen happy guests leaving our home.
I would also like to remind you Lyndsay, that we asked you if you had had enough food at the end of the dinner, as we were concerned that you were not eating much. You answered us that you were fine, took a selfie with the whole group and thanked us for a nice dinner when leaving. It would have been easier and nicer for you and for us if you would just have said something that night. We would have found a solution for you, as there is absolutely no problem for us to add some extra food if needed.
We feel really sad about this situation, sad that you did not feel satisfied with our experience, sad for the other guests present that night that did not have as great a time with everyone as it is the case most of the times, and sad to receive not 1 but 2 bad reviews from you (the first bad ones out of 205 reviews as of today!). Cristina and I have been investing 2 years of our life to make those experiences as enjoyable as possible, and we keep working hard every minute to improve the quality of what we do. We put all of our love and dedication in our business, and are ready to accept any critics, as long as they are not lies nor deep exagerations of a situation.
I hope that these 2 unfair reviews left by 1 single person will not affect the opinion of some future guests after they have read our explanations. Please keep reading reviews to make up your mind!
Kind regards from Barcelona,
Guillermo

I attended the tapas class run by Guillermo and Cristina with my mum and we both had a fantastic time! The hosts are absolutely delightful and we were very lucky, because all the guests (there were five of us altogether) were amazing, fun-loving people, too. No surprise there - that's exactly the kind of person who would enjoy this great class.
It honestly felt like reconnecting with long lost friends, rather than going to a stranger's apartment for the first time! I learnt some great cooking tips, too - it wasn't all just fun and games. Guillermo is incredibly passionate about the culinary arts and he successfully transferred his passion for tapas onto all the guests.
Instead of 11pm when the event was supposed to end, we ended up going home after midnight. Never once did the guests look at their watch or make us feel like we should leave - in fact it was one of the guests who politely suggested we do. Everyone was having such a great time that we lost track of time!
One more thing I loved was the guests' passion for locally sourced and ethically produced food. They get their ingredients from markets and local suppliers, helping small communities rather than supporting huge businesses. What a great attitude!
I would DEFINITELY recommend Barcelona Slow Travel to anyone passing through this lovely city :)

Thanks Sabina, what a great review! Well we've got to say we also felt like reconnecting with long time lost friends that evening! We had a lot of fun too and really hope that we would see you and the other guests soon again! Your pictures are great by the way, thanks for sharing them! Take care and say hello to your mum from Cristina and I.

I'm a little late in posting this review, but after recently providing some recommendations to friends traveling to Barcelona, I was reminded of the fantastic night we had with Guillermo and Christina and a small group of fellow travelers at a Barcelona Slow Travel tapas cooking class. Guillermo and Christina are wonderful hosts, warm and welcoming, knowledgeable about food, about Barcelona, and passionate about sharing their knowledge and experience. They create a fantastic atmosphere welcoming guests into their home for a laid back informative and entertaining class which feels more like a dinner party than a cooking class, and we had as good a time getting to know Guillermo and Christina and our fellow guests as we did cooking and eating the wonderful food.

One of the best things I've ever done on a vacation. Period. We did the Eco Wine Tour, and it blew us away. The guide, Albert, is one of the nicest and most genuine people I have ever met. From the first time we talked to him (to tell him we were going to be late because of train problems, which he was incredibly nice and helpful with), to the time we said goodbye, there was never a moment where he was not smiling and treating us as if we were family. He took us on a tour of two vineyards, one of which was owned and operated by his entire family. We met his father who started the vineyard, his brother who runs it now, his sister and his sister in law! We watched them bottle cava, and explored their wine cave, which is hand carved and has fossils from the ocean embedded in the walls! The second vineyard was run by an incredible woman and her father, and their passion for cava was matched only by their kindness. Even our lunch made us feel like rockstars, as a husband and wife team personally cooked and delivered our food, proudly explaining each and every Catalan dish. When we left to take the train back to Barcelona, we ran into a local who had seen us in the morning, and she sat with us on the train and told us all about her town. We haven't stopped talking about this tour, and hope that one day we can go back and visit Albert again!!

An exceptional food and cultural experience. Carefully selected ingredients, fantastic atmosphere and the best hosts you can imagine makes this the best travel experience you can have. Not only a must do in Barcelona, but worth a trip in itself.

Highlight of our month in Europe and a wonderful way to complete our trip. If we had more time left on our trip I would definitely book in for the cooking class.
We visited two wineries and it was great to spend time unhurried allowing time to have great conversations with a winemaker Pepe and Marta from the second winery after lunch.
We almost didn’t make the tour as I booked a babysitter for our toddler on the wrong day. I emailed Guillermo to inform we couldn’t take the tour at short notice & Guillermo came up with the solution of Christina being our babysitter so we didn’t miss this experience. We are so grateful!!! And my daughter had her first swim in the Mediterranean with Christina. I wanted to add this to my review so anyone reading this can appreciate they are very nice people who go above and beyond to ensure you have a great experience and memories.
Guillermo - we enjoyed everything about the tour you prepared for us, your conversation and all that you shared with us about your personal values regarding food, sustainable living, farm to table and general outlook. Thank you for an incredible day. We genuinely hope to see you again when we find ourselves back in this region. All the very best to you and Christina. And please keep me posted if you create a cookbook as we’d love to purchase it.
