Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Large area with vessels ranging from cruise liners to large yachts. Smaller boats are around the central marina which is a bustling area of activity and restaurants

Busy, busy place with all the shipping going on. It is a major port of entry for Europe and this port is a workhorse, employing many people. For us, it was the cruise ship experience and the port can accommodate many ships. Crowds, but it is all managed well. If you are departing try to find out exactly where your ship is docked, as it is a big area.

This port is easy to navigate. We got a taxi from our city centre hotel and it brought us just to where you embark. From there it’s well signposted. Embarking is similar. Lots of taxis available.

This is where we arrived on our big cruise ship. They have room to berth at least 5 big ships at a time, and since this is a popular port, it is usually busy. Everything works well. We were on our way quickly with a short cab ride through the port and into the city.

The port area of Barcelona is huge, we visited on two occasions, the first enjoying everything, the port has to offer, it is fun to walk around, there is plenty to see and do, on weekends it is incredibly busy, with the market, shopping centre and lovely promenades.
The second time, was when we left on a cruise which was simple and no fuss.

At the very beginning, today's port was just a ship anchorage located south of the Montjuic mountain, which, in ancient times, was already used by the Phoenician and Phocean merchants. However, the loss of ships and goods, from the 10th to the 12th centuries, and the subsequent lack of protection of this anchorage, led to the decision to create an artificial port. In 1428, the first work on the creation of the port began. King Alfonso V the Generous granted the Councilors of Barcelona permission to build a port to facilitate loading and unloading.

Our Seabourn cruise docked here so that folks who were not continuing could terminate their trip. For the rest of us, we loved that we could get off the ship and wander around to places we missed on other earlier trips to Barcelona. So much to see and never enough time but this time, we took our own sweet time!

The water views feature the Columbus column, the huge civic waterway sculpture of 7 metal rings ("Ones" by di Andreau Alfaro), the flea markets, and from there, just set your priorities. Any and all directions will yield excellent search results.

It is not the prettiest port but it is efficient. The cruise ships dock in the shadow of the aerial tram (it is really huge!) and there is a hotel right along side the ship's docking area. So it feels cramped and crowded but it is a convenient location.

So many different boats and ships to see in the port. If possible catch one and take a trip out to get a different view of Barcelona.

Signposting is confusing. The ferry company had sent Covid forms, which we had filled in. Wrong ones. Handed form in Italian. None of us speak Italian. Not much freight nor many cars. It’s a functional port. Departed at dusk, sailing out through the industrial port which was a hive of floodlit activity.
