If you have seen the major sites in Barcelona the next thing to do is take a trip or tour to Montserrat Monastery. There is a lot to see here so give yourself the day. They have a restaurant. Views are spectacular. See about purchasing some of the ceramics made by the nuns there. And do stop at the vendors... More

My sister's name is Montserrat so I had to make sure I stopped by when in Spain. I was there in January so the weather was below zero degrees, thankfully I had warm clothes or else I would have been freezing. If you go in the winter time, please dress accordingly to the weather.

We were in time to hear the boys choir at 1pm- but if you want a seat go in early! I wish I had gone to museum- I heard later there were great paintings to see. I was having a coffee and looking at tourist shop instead!

Particularly enjoyed the choir at midday. Monastery was awesome but large queue to see Black Madonna. Fortunate to visit inJanuary - imagine parking would be very testing in summer. Views were stunning all the way up the mountain and from the monastery. Was pleased roads were of good quality - was worried it would be very narrow.

A friend drove us out to the monastery, and we took the funicular up to the main level. Since it was still morning, we were above the clouds. After strolling around, we headed up the mountain on one of the hikes. We made it about halfway, enjoying all the stellar views. We then got lunch and a coffee in the... More

We went to the monastery last December 2016 to attend the mass. The trip going up to the mountain was simply breathtaking. We had the chance of seeing the Black Madonna up close since we arrived early. Tip. try to come early to avoid line ups.

The Monestary is about a 45 minute train ride from Barcelona. It is well worth the time and will take up most of your daylight hours. When you arrive, the boarding site for the gondola is just steps away from the train station. The gondola ride up the mountain might seem overwhelming at first but it's actually one of beautiful... It's not too much of a drive up to a 4,320-foot Montserrat which I feel is Barcelona's little hidden gem. You will notice with its impressive Benedictine monastery halfway up the mountain and the views are just breathtaking. If you get there early enough, you will enjoy a dégustacion of local honey, cheeses, jams, among other delicious homemade samplings. If... More

The 1.5 hour journey there is all part of the fun as you start your way skyward weaving in around and up the mountain, once the top you are greeted with a couple of restaurants all but one were closed during the visit and the 3rd had the most horrible food ive had throughout Europe and would recommend packing your... Montserrat is just glorious! It was a perfect day trip from Barcelona. Very easy to purchase the ticket from the Metro stop and an hour later, I switched to the funicular, which took me to the peak (another 20 min ride was amazing views!!) The choir was not there when I visited, and I still spent around two hours just... More
