Hearing the most historic boys choir in the world, receiving a blessing by touching the "Black Madonna" and standing in the Vortex in the courtyard were well worth the roller coaster car ride through the steep switchback mountains. This a must-see.

Didnt really come here for the monastery but the views of Montserrat. Only a short trip from Barcelona by coach maybe 1 hour, worth it!

Monserrat is a fabulous and beautiful place. The serrated mountain, the beautiful landscape and the fresh air make this place surreal. Its tranquility and serenity make one to reflect on herself / himself. The monastery itself is beautifully designed with classy architecture.

During our visit to Barcelona we decided to go visit this attraction which is outside of Barcelona, just a train journey away. First of all the prices are fair for the train which covers you entrance (by either cable car or train). When we emerged from a tunnel after leaving Barcelona, we were greeted with beautiful mountains and a scenic... More

After reading the reviews of Montserrat, we decided to keep aside a full day for visiting the Monastery and the surroundings. As had been advised, we commuted using a combination of the local train and the funicular which made it fast in the first part of the journey and scenic in the later part. Once at Montserrat, we first went... More

I highly recommend visiting while in Barcelona. The rocky mountains are spectacular. The Monastery is very beautiful. The museum is definitely a must. We took the train from Barcelona - very easy to do and there are helpful people at the train station. We took the cable car. We had to wait close to 1 hour after we got off... More

The church is beautiful, set into the conglomerate mountainside. It's got the usual highlights of a European church, but it's also got some unique notes. I really enjoyed seeing reference to the Tower of Babel, and the Black Madonna is quite something. I'd never heard of it, but it turns out there are a few Black Madonnas around Europe. I... More

My wife and I made a quick trip from Barcelona to Montserrat in January 2017. We took a train from Placa de Espanya in Barcelona and switched to the rack railway. The cost for a roundtrip ticket is about 20 euros and it takes 90 minutes to get to Montserrat. We focused on the Montserrat Monastery. You can see the... More

An absolutely stunning area with views over to the Pyrenees. Did one of the shorter walks up a lot of steps which was hard work but worth it for the absolutely incredible views. Would recommend going for the walking mainly as it is beautiful. The monastery is also stunning but doesn't need much time spent in it. We didn't go... More

We used City Discovery Barcelona to do a morning half day guided tour to Montserrat and the Royal Basilica. We met at the City Discovery office to start off our journey. It was a nice scenic drive to Montserrat from Barcelona which took about one and a half hours. The views going to the top of the mountain were just... More
