We took a half day tour to the Montserrat Monastery. It is located in a beautiful location, with gorgeous views. The history surrounding the mountain, the monastery and the Negro Madona was fascinating. The boys choir was beautiful, as was the church and grounds. Outside we encountered a small market where local products were being sold, such as cheese, fruits,... More

There is so much to do there, we just didn't have enough time on our tour. The church and black madonna was beyond description. We also took the funicular to the top (no time for hiking), sat in the coffee shop for about 20 minutes and went to the museum, which was amazing! We loved the local market and bought... More

Better get there early, to avoid lines at the cable car. We took the metro and train.Incredible views as you ascend. An ancient monastery with impressive architecture, very well kept grounds and tourist oriented facilities. Do wear walking shoes and camera is a must. It can be an all day event.

We took the R5 train from Espanya station in Barcelona to the Aeri (cable car) station. Cost 10.75 Euro each for this leg. We chose to come back down the mountain on the Cremallera (rack & rail) train to catch the R5 back to Barcelona. Cost 10.20 Euro each for that leg of the trip. We got in the line... More

This is a fantastic place to visit! It really needs a whole day to visit the monastery and to trek about on the paths. The boys choir performance at midday in the basilica is short but beautiful. We took the funicular up to Sant Joan - the views are incredible. There is an online tourist site that explains the different... More

If your travels lead you to Barcelona, plan an extra day to visit Montserrat (whose name means “serrated mountain”). It’s a worthwhile visit for religious pilgrims and nature lovers alike! Only an hour away by train, you’ll find yourself high in the mountains with spectacular views. The monastery was founded in the 10th century and continues to function today with... More

It was a very foggy day when we went so we did not see the place very well but still had a good experience having the place almost to ourselves. It was a perfect setting to pray and reflect.

Family of 4 purchased train and lift ticket from Barcelona. The train ride was 1 hour and the lift was 6 minutes. The views were amazing! We were able to see for miles! We toured the monastery, grounds, and museum. We were also able to hear the boys choir sing... angelic sounds in an heavenly setting. The trip took about... More

We went up to the Monastery early in the morning. Unfortunately, it was very foggy up there so we weren't able to see clearly. Even with that, it was worth the trip. I will say though I was surprised at how commercialized some of it was;
