Part of the experience is getting here. Do it on your own. Buy the type of ticket you want at the train station & include lunch. The cafeteria is huge and the food is very good and includes wine or beer. The church is beautiful...More

Montserrat is an easy day trip from Barcelona and worth going. The monastery is beautiful and the hiking around the area is gorgeous; it reminded me of the rocky mountains but with more interesting rock formations. The Stairway to Heaven is a very interesting sculpture....More

The monastery itself is in the really scenic place, surrounded by mountains. And also the huge buildings around makes you feel small.

A must see day trip! The train trip from Barcelona only took about an hour and the train system was easy to navigate....very good signage to the Montserrat train. We took the cable car up to the monastery and recommend it. I find our time...More

If this kind of thing appeals to you then you will love it . For me the best thing was the cable car to the top and the views over Barcelona. Everyone goes to see the Virgin Mary and listens to the choir who are...More

The whole area is beautiful with the buildings and the views. Don't miss the Boys’ Choir since they are so well known, and be sure to wait on the line to see the Black Madonna. The doors to the Madonna opened early once Mass was...More

Strongly recommend to see this iconic place 1 hr by bus from Barcelona. I am sorry for not staying overnight. If you have enough time book staying overnight. There is so much to see Mirjana and Branimir Newcastle NSW

Wonderful cable ride to the monastery though the wait was really long, almost 2 hours. but the view from the top was worth it. We took both the funiculars and also hiked a distance. The black madonna was different from any other. We timed it such...More

Does the Monastery have wheelchairs available? I am traveling with my mother and she can't walk for long periods of time but would like to be able to fully appreciate what Montserrat has to offer.

One traveler said the Boys' Choir only sings on Sunday only. The website says that they sing TWICE a day: at 13:00 PM (noon on Sundays) and 18:45 for Vespers. They don't sing on Saturdays. Has this changed?

When we went there in Nov 2016 we were able to catch them at 1pm (Mon-Fri). Be sure to be there early to get good seats. We attended the mass before that and sat it out 'til they walked in. That's more than an hour's wait... More

Would you recommend the cog train or the cable car to the monastery? (Looks like the train is more comfortable, but the cable car provides more dramatic views. It's probably also a lot more crowded?) And if I go on just one funicular, which would you suggest ? (I don't hike -- but thought I might take ONE of the funiculars for the view. I don't think there's much else besides the view, is there?)
