Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The building shown in the photo in the old town is currently under restoration and the best exhibits from the museum are on show in the Port area (opposite the Museum of the Port of Tarragona at Tinglado 4). There are some very interesting exhibits on show here and lots of information which is available in English, Spanish and Catalan. Well worth a visit. Be sure to also visit the early Christian necropolis which is included in your entry price and is a 10 minute walk away.

Unfortunately we only saw aspects of the grand main museum building in the Old Town. However, while it is under refurbishment, a selection of the treasure trove is housed here.

Tinglado 4 was a former passenger terminal in the port until 1986. From thereon it hosted cultural events, and now serves as temporary museum stand in.

Being the oldest Roman outpost on the Iberian peninsula, Tarraco has a fascinating back story from ancient times, plus many artefacts exemplifying this status.

An engaging series of exhibits shows off this great heritage.

What a disappointment to find this important institution completely closed for who knows how many years, since it is one of the principal reasons to come to Tarragona!

If you don't have any interest in history then this will seem like a waste of time and just an old building made of stone.
But if you like Roman history or have any knowledge of the Spanish Civil War then this is a good place to visit.
There are some nice bars and cafes in the area for those who want to sit it out.
It's inexpensive and has some interesting history. The view from the top is sensational.

Google maps sent us to the wrong place - it is now situated on the water's edge at the port. Lots of history given, in several languages. Easy to follow the history of Tarragona chronologically. Some fabulous remains.

Even my 18 year old son whose not really into history enjoyed our trip round this combination of museum and Roman remains. The exhibits were intersting and some beautiful statues. Ensure you go up the stairs where you can especially in the old tower, the views are absolutely stunning, worth the entrance fee just for that. if you are lucky you will like us see one of the local human tower teams training in a building close by.

The best, the location. Inside, many archeological items of the Roman Tarragona, their interest is aboslutely modest

there are some nice pieces, but as a whole the museum is nothing spectacular. I specially liked the Medusa mosaic. but I wonder if this is really all and the best they found on the Roman sites here around . or if it all went to Madrid or Barcelona...

This is a very interesting attraction. More than just a museum, this place has many pathways that lead in different directions which enhance the feeling of exploring this ancient site. Up top you will have an excellent view of the surrounding area.

A fab Museum, the view out of the top corner window near the anchor is great, don't miss it. Quite an in depth museum. Roman sculptures, mosaics, set over several floors. Museum is definitely for the History Buffs, it is more of a traditional museum, well worth the 4.50 euros.
