Decided on spur of the moment to ride the cable car. Have to say I was surprised at the price (£19 per adult return plus extra to visit nature reserve/tunnels) but there is a £2pp reduction for over 65s. Queue didn’t look too long but then we realised it snaked inside the building and took us ages (must be awfully hot in summer) as there’s only 2 cars operating and they take around 12 pax per car. Takes around 6mins to reach the upper station. You do get really good views but take extreme care of loose bags and food as eagle eyed baboons are looking for easy pickings (have to admit it’s fun watching the snatchers in action from viewing balcony!) There were minicab touts outside the base station and I think it would have been easier and cheaper to use them instead as they also give a guided tour (especially as we were a group of 4 and guess we could have bargained on price)

We went late morning and bought tickets at the kiosk; £34.50pp one way with access to all the attractions on the Rock (tunnels, caves, castle, skywalk, suspension bridge, nature reserve etc.). You get a wrist band and as you reach the different points of interest you get scanned in, very easy and straightforward. We had a twenty minute wait for the cable car but I imagine it gets far busier in the summer.

Going with the cable car is a good method to see all the sights on Gibraltar, and you don’t mind walking. We took the cable car to the top (nice view). We then started heading toward Skywalk (there is a plaque there highlighting that Mark Hamill was there to open the venue). We then headed to O’Hara Battery (there is a long uphill to get there). Then its approximately 15 minutes downhill to St. Michael’s Cave (there is a seven-minute light show in the cave when we were there). Then it was down to the Windsor Suspension Bridge, then a slight uphill 30-minute walk to Caroline’s Battery (don’t forget to see the memorial to those who died defending Gibraltar). It was then an uphill hike to the Great Siege tunnels (that was my highlight, especially seeing the seven cannon at St. Geroge’s Hall), then onto the World War II tunnels (many more rooms blasted out to create an underground city), and the Moorish Castle before going back into town. Including the walk to//from the Spanish boarder, we walked a little over 10 miles that day. As an alternative, you can take a taxi tour (I’m sure that you can find reviews elsewhere on Trip Advisor). We saw the taxis zoom past us at several of the sights, but it didn’t appear that they went to all the same locations (you definitely cannot get to Windsor suspension bridge via taxi), nor spend as much time lingering. In all, I’m glad that we chose the method we were able to fully appreciate all that Gibraltar had to offer.

The Cable Car is old and tired as are the buildings at the top and bottom.Going in March we were lucky enough to walk straight on.They cram you in a bit and I doubt the ride is even 6 mins long.The views available at multiple places at the top are better than you get on the cable car- but it does the job of getting you to the top. The ride is expensive but if you combine it with the pass to walk down to the gardens,cave,tunnels etc its a full day out and there is much excellent stuff to see. Need good weather to get the best obvs.

This was a great few hours spent here in Gibraltar. Did not wait long in going up or coming back down. Great views and some monkeys too. Can’t say the same for the restaurant at the top. The problem with places that have no competition around is staff become complacent and sloppy which is what the service was like for me.

I enjoyed going up the rock on the cable car. It only takes about six minutes and affords great views. When going up I suggest you go to the back as the view is better. I do feel it is probably overpriced for the time you spend on it.

Don’t prebook- we didn’t and were thankful of that. There is no advantage to pre booking as far as I can see and quite some disadvantage. This is especially pertinent if a cruise ship is in port. Top tip: check the view from your hotel before going to the cable car and if there’s a cruise ship docked, be prepared for a long wait. In the end it’s worth it as you don’t have to walk all the way up (which you could do if you were so minded).

Mid April is a great time to visit. Queue is small and moves quickly. Parking has colourgcoded system - parking between white lies (bays) is free, blue - you have o pay, yellow is for residents only and you will get clamped. We didn't know and got confused but friendly local explained it to us ❤️

The cost for the return cable car and visit to the park, €48 per person, is excessive. The view from above is spectacular and the monkeys are a nice attraction. If you go up by cable car you will not be able to visit the Moorish castle included in the ticket

We went in pre-season, but still we had a 1.5 hour wait till we could go upstairs. How must this be in high season? A higher capacity tram car is greatly recommended. The cable car is kind of a necessity if you want to go up the rock with kids, but the queueing line is not efficient. Also the distinguishment between pre-sale and counter tickets is very confusable and makes people cut the line.
