This is a great place to visit if you want to experience a genuine food market rather than a tourist market. There are a large number of stalls selling everything you could want with beautiful displays at sensible prices.

We were staying in the Chueca neighbourhood which is an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants and this great supermarket and although I am not at all interested in shopping while I am on holiday i ventured into here as most everyone of the...More

This place is different to the nearby San Anton market in that it is a proper working everyday market to buy top quality food. Not geared towards visitors. The displays are beautiful. There is a food court on the upper floor.

Promised a lot from the outside with a slick modern market hall. But once inside, it was disappointing with a high vacant rate of stalls and a floor that was sealed off and appear to be a rough sleeping spot. It's only two years old...More

The Mercado de San Miguel is a crowded, touristy disappointment when compared to el Mercado Barcelo. The produce is more varied. The quality better. The choices of stalls more numerous. I liked the second floor fruit stand the best. And the man behind the counter...More

So, it's not got the architecture or history of old Mercado de San Miguel. But this modern market has real businesses who sell food and wine at real madrid prices - not the rip-off tourist rates around Puerta de Sol or Plaza mayor. That means...More

Chueca is the hip, gay neighbourhood of Madrid where
many of the streets are narrow and intimate, but where
the hustle and bustle and the eclectic storefronts and
people give it a distinctly urban feel. The main
thoroughfare is Calle Hortaleza and the main square is
Plaza Chueca, completely filled with terraza tables
serving copas (mixed drinks) during summer. A mixture
of trendy and grungy, some of the adult businesses
