A peek into Spanish noble life over the centuries
This palace is still inhabited by family members. On view are many interesting family portraits, photographs and other memorabilia. The vintage decor is also of interest. I particularly enjoyed the library, which contains rare documents from Columbus's voyages of discovery. The grounds are also beautiful.

More expectations for the visit, average tour.
Nice building with stunning master pieces of art. The tour is very patronised by the guy showing you around. Not time even to stop a few minutes to see the rooms in peace. Not time to question doubts or curiosities. The temporary exhibition of fashion very poor. All people were expecting more. Only a few dresses and nothing special. A bit disappointed. No pics allowed. The tour guy was very unfriendly. The ladies at the main entrance very helpful and accommodating though.

Stunning Home of the Dukes of Alba
This is the home of the Dukes of Alba, the premier noble family of Spain. This Madrid palace contains some fine pieces of art and the rooms shown are beautiful. The visits are timed and you are led through the rooms by a guide who points out works of art mentioned in the audio guide. Though the guide speaks Spanish, you can ask for an audio in English. The tour is about 65 minutes long and is well-done. A most interesting visit. Buy the timed tickets online.

A fascinating aristocratic palace to visit in the middle of Madrid
The Palacio de Liria was a highlight of a recent trip to Madrid. The palace is a short walk up the hill from Plaza de Espana, at the Northern end of Gran Via. There is an excellent audio quide in English, and you are led through the house by a guide, who for example points out paintings as the audio-guide tells you about them - the tour takes about an hour. The Alba family history is intertwined with the history of Spain, and the artwork and precious porcelain (most by Meissen) that you see on the tour is incredible. It was interesting to learn that the family is of Scottish/Irish ancestry, through the FitzJames Stuart line. Interesting to note too that there seem to be very few photos of the 18th Duchess of Alba! The shop has some nice tourist souvenirs that are not too expensive. This museum/art gallery is to be highly recommended.

TA contributors have already commented on the many treasures in the Palacio de Liria, so I'm not going to repeat them. The visit is well worth it. Since November my senior university association has brought 80 members here in small groups.

The organisation has been both efficient and friendly, following all the Covid protocols. The audioguide is good and you are also accompanied a real guide who is there to control the group and answer questions,

I stumbled across this one while researching something else in Madrid. Serendipity. It wasn’t emphasized anywhere, but it should have been. It is a lovely, tasteful palace with excellent design and some exquisite furnishings and artwork. Really well done. I was totally satisfied, even though as a private property they did not offer free entry to my handicapped wife and I as government-owned places like the Palace Real and the Prado did and it was relatively expensive at. I believe, 13 euros each. The shame is that they did not allow visit to the grounds outside of the front of the building and I believe they did not allow pictures inside, which is even more of a shame. You should definitely try to include this in your itinerary if you have the time. Try and allot at least 4-5 days if you visit Madrid, even more to give it its due. You won’t regret it. If you are retired and coming to see Spain for the first time and you can afford it, I recommend spending four weeks, minimum to see what you should see as a rookie at a relaxed pace.

I have waited a long time and finally this great palace, Casa de Alba, home for Duchess and Duke of Alba is open for a public. Its art collection is very valuable and one of the most prestigious in Europe. You can see some of the main rooms, art works and the library ( with original maps and letters by Columbus, Don Quijote second edition...) This is a must for art and palace museum lovers.

The website talks about "a different museum, a sensory experiencia, merging senses through music, voice, words and images" so our expectations were high. But what a joke. The music is the background music in the audiotour, the words and the voice are thewords of the audiotour. The tourguide seems a flight attendant, pointing out the paintings, without saying a word, while visitors listen to their headphones. Much more voice and words you are not going to hear, as It is forbidden to speak during the tour. And you are not allowed to ask questions either, until the end of the tour.
The collection is merely portraits of the duques and their friends. You are not allowed to come close to the paintings, like in any other museum. No explanación about the furniture, cthe rooms, nothing. Just the paintings.
The whole tour is a glorificación of the family, without explaining where all their wealth came from.
A tasteless exposición of 4 elefant tusks, was the limit for me. Or maybe the limit was that, outside , the actual family cars, new Bentley, Porsche, rangerovers...are parked, to show the visitors that the family really lives here. Hilarious.

If you love Palaces (big or small), this one does not disappoint! We initially didn't think we would have time on our 1st visit to Madrid last week (because we had to see Royal Palace and Cerrablo palace museum also), but due to Liria having early evening hours we were able to thankfully! We had learned of the Alba family at Duena's Palace in Seville so was neat to learn more of their lineage and of course we love all opulent palaces! Staff courteous and the audio/video very well done in our opinion. Can't take pics but not unusual for certain place in Europe. The rooms (not as opulent at Royal Palace/Cerrablo) but still stunning/outstanding, and we would have been disappointed if we had missed it. Tour lasted 50 minutes for interior.

We had a “guided tour”: an excellent audio guide and a tour guide who lead us from room to room and added details to what we had learned from the audio guide…. very complete/thorough. We were also encouraged to ask questions at the end of the tour. The library is amazing. Worth the visit. Highly recommended.

Very fascinating private tour of the Palacio followed by champagne on the terrace. Incredible collection of historical documents including letters and a map from Christopher Columbus, large private art collection categorized by time. Lovely way to spend 1-2 hrs
