Very pleasant stroll along a renovated river bank ( both sides). There are many benches and good areas for picnics. The river itself is narrow and shallow, but is pretty, with lots of little islands supporting large water birds. There are multiple footbridges for crossing the river, and we easily found subway stations near the beginning and end of our walk. There was at least one cafe in the park itself, and multiple eating options near the park. We had been looking forward to exploring it since we like river walks, and we were not disappointed.

A wonderful park, away from tourist flows, created to highlight the city river. There are many possibilities for entertainment for young people and adults, such as the so-called "PLAYA URBANA", an aquatic area where you can spend some time. It is advisable to visit the park during the week.

Very pleasant walk all along Madrid Rio Park. The more sporty will leave from the Royal Palace, go down the palace garden and, once at river level, go to the splendid buildings of Matadero. Don't miss the crystal palace: a greenhouse with three atmospheres (subtropical, tropical and desert)

Probably best to go in the summer when there is more to see. It was a LONG walk from one end to the other with small stops along with way with some parks and bridges. A nice afternoon if you got several days in Madrid and want to venture out to another park area besides Retiro Park.

One of the places I enjoyed while in Madrid was the Parque Madrid Rio. I loved the many photo opportunities this place has to offer ... nature, health buffs working out, old bridges, modern bridges, and the fact that it was not busy and is big. A great way to stay healthy ... forget the gym. This park is the way to go.

I walked one direction the first day of my visit and went the opposite direction the following day. Lots of things to see and take pictures of.

The park has undergone extensive renovations to make it the impressive space it is today. There is something for pretty much everyone, whether it’s enjoying the gardens, walking a dog, or just taking a leisurely stroll.

Tip: early morning is quite peaceful.

Madrid has done a fantastic job of making this long section of the river into a boulevard punctuated with parks. If you include the less formal section north of casa de Campo, it runs at least 20km. Very popular with bar-restuarants on the walk as well as in the street running alongside for parts of the way. If you keep going south it becomes open country with a good path and parks along the river. Also good for cyclists.

Shortly before our trip to Spain (which included two nights in Madrid) we were reading about Madrid Rio, an enormous ribbon of park running about 10km along the Manzanares that some have called one of the most ambitious urban planning and landscape architecture projects in a generation.

We visited the park in conjunction with a trip to the new Matadero Madrid arts complex (which does not appear to be listed yet on TA) which sits at one end of the park. We started at the Matadero Plaza and followed the Madrid Rio as far as Puente Toledo which provided a useful jumping off point for tapas that evening on C. Cava Baja.

The park has been in the works for some time now but has been open for less than a year (and in fact landscaping and other works are continuing). It's highlights include beautiful green space, a host of new pedestrian bridges, some amazing contemporary and historic architecture (restoration of several historic bridges was an important part of the project), bike and walking trails, sports facilities, a skate park, playgrounds, an urban beach and, being Spain, at least one bar where we stopped to enjoy a bit of local football on TV over a caña and a glass of wine.

In short, the Madrid Rio is a major urban park, ambitious in design and scope, that provide a really wide variety of options for relaxation and recreation. Moreover it seems to be quickly realizing the goal of being adopted as an accessible backyard for Madrilenos. As a tourist it is hard not to be envious of a city amenity like Madrid Rio but while there you can pretend like you are a local for a bit and gain a sense of what it is like to live in Madrid.

During a visit to Madrid in January, I decided to explore the urban riverwalk along the Manzanares river. It was a lovely Saturday, pleasant temperatures for January. Although I only walked 8km, the walk was a lovely experience. A wonderful park area along the river, the riverwalk leads to several park areas and playgrounds and winds around several city neighborhoods. There are restaurants and cafés along the way. In addition, a number of small bridges and walkways connect the riverwalk with the surrounding urban core. The walk is bike-friendly and a magnet to families, skaters, and roller boarders. As a consequence, one can explore and experience the dynamic cityscape of Madrid. The views are also fascinating and ever changing. The walk seems to be a recent project destined to transform the river into an oasis within the mega-metrópolis of Madrid. It was clear that has become a vital conduit for the inhabitants and an enjoyable space for visitors. I plan to return and enjoy the green spaces afforded by the walk.

This park is beautiful for strolling (and I really wish I'd come here for a run), but if your family travel MO always involves hitting some good playgrounds (as ours does, with 8- & 10-year-old boys), then Madrid Rio is a don't-miss.

The info I found about the park online says there are 17 different play areas, but I found it difficult to find the specific locations of the various play areas beforehand. These 5 are pretty great and it's about a mile and a half walk so we thought that was enough to explore; hopefully these directions will be useful to others.

If you take the metro to Piramides and walk east along the north side of the river, you'll first get to the "Esqueleto," a large log structure for climbing. A little farther along, just after the modern Arganzuela pedestrian bridge, you'll find the "toboganes," a set of about 8 (really cool, per my kids) slides built into a little hill. Next, a more standard play area, themed like a pirate ship. Next, after the skate park, the "tirolina," or zip line.

If you go a little farther past the tirolina, cross the first of two identical pedestrian bridges to the other side of the river, and keep going east, you'll come to another playground with a smaller zipline. After that, cross the next pedestrian bridge back to the north side of the river and you'll be close to the Legazpi metro station. (note that the Matadero art & culture space is right here; check their calendar for interesting stuff going on.)

There are restrooms at the snack bar between the slides and the pirate ship. There's also a large mall across the street from the last playground I described.
