I currently live in Madrid and decided to take a wonder around the world famous Las Ventas bullring. Wondering around the back, we came across a small museum inside the bull ring itself.
Entrance is free and a security guard hands you a ticket and you´re free to walk around and take a look inside the cabinets which house bullfighting memorabilia, mainly bloodstains outfits legendary bullfighters wore when they were gored to death. It does sound quite horrific, but it is really interesting, especially when you get to the back of the museum where the heads of bulls who have killed famous bull fighters, are mounted on the walls alongside a plaque describing the life and death of the matador.
Being an avid fan of bullfighting, I was surprised by how small the museum was, but it is still definately worth a visit, especially if you want to learn more about the art of bullfighting
. It definately gets a thumbs up from me.

Went to the Plaza de Toros las Ventas and then to the Bullfight and found it to be a wonderful cultural experience. The Museum is dusty and dark but never the less showed some of the memorabilia of the time when Bullfighting was at it's peak and it's grandure. The Toreros clothing is on display and is beautiful but I found the size of the clothing to be very small. The men must have been very slight in stature. The seating is stone so do spend the euros for the cushions. You will be glad you did. Do NOT leave the arena once the fights begin or you will not be allowed back in until the next fight of which there is a total of six. You will be able to watch it on the over head TV until you get back in. There are bars in the down stairs area. When booking your tickets I reccommend NOT sitting in the seats where the sun is. You will be hot and won't see well for the majority of the fight. WARNING: Don't go if you are in the lest bit disturbed by the killing of these animals. You will NOT enjoy it. I was able to wrap my mind around this Spanish sport when it was explaned that these animals, once killed, are slaughtered and the meat is then given to those who are hungry. Still it is not for those who are boarderline in their opinions about bullfights. For those who really do enjoy the fights, the Toreros are a thing of grace and tallent. Very brave men.

Entry is normally 25 euros for a 40 minute tour and entry to the museum, but as they were dismantling the temporary roof from a rock concert it was reduced to 9 euros. This made it good value for money but the downside was the sand and main arean was covered by the partially dimantled roof (we knew this before we opted to go in). The tour was infomative and their passion for the 'sport' was evident. The fighting season is from March to Octobger with the main time during May when there is a fight session every day (otherwise at least one per weekend and on bank holidays). Each session lasts about 2 hours with 3 fights entry tickets range from 5 euros for a seat high up (still good views) to 150 euros for prime seats in the shade. Buidling was fascinating to see and again shows the pride the Spanish have in the sport. Would recommend geeting metro to Las Ventas as this pops up right outside the arena, other wise it is about a 40 minute walk from Ciebeles.

Many people when visiting madrid are interested in learning something about the "Toros" and bullfighting in Spain.
The museum is public and free...ok...but then it's just a sad and dusty collection of items (mainly donations), many portraits and scultures of bullfighters, few heads of toros, few documents and few costumes. No explanations what so ever on the bullfighting it-self, the history, tradition, modern times etc. Not aimed to the tourist, it is more a "nostalgic" room for bullfight lovers. A pity...

This museum is to the rear of the bull ring and could be missed. This is a small museum but well laid out and obviously very important to the Spanish. It's also free to go in although the bull ring itself is 9 euros each

I loved this, it was one of the best tours I took in Madrid.
The guide was so passionate about the subject, she made it all the more interesting. I liked it so much, that I considered returning, but time did not allow me to do this.
I recommend whether you are a fan or not!

First off i googled several different museums ones free and ones that weren't. The website for this one said it was free to the public...well its not! When went there and right outside there are a few sculputures that are nice to take pics of but i wanted to see inside. Well we walked up and the lady said its not free its 14 euros for an hour. I said well the website said there was no charge she said it was to listen to audio of the history of the museum lol..so we took a couple pics of the sculptures outside then left.

Spend 9€ on a ticket to see this place after reading description of tour. All I saw was the inside of the ring seating and a 2 min video. It was advertised ad FREE which it wasn't and when I asked if that was all the tour the assistant laughed and said something in Spanish to other assistance. Even the information said 8 section I saw 4. My opinion that this horrific spectator killing should be stopped.

Don't miss the museum, the tour of Las Ventas or the bull fights. You will experience an important cultural event. Best if you read and undertand something before visiting your first bull fight but worth inventing a little time for the education.
