Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

I went to Fonte de Cibeles, just to take a picture of my little VW Wan, but I didn't count on the beauty and charm that I would find. As I couldn't before, I only managed to visit it at night and I had no idea that I would find an extraordinary play of lights, which transforms and transcends the beauty of the fountain and the palace to another dimension. I recommend to anyone who wants to go there, try to go before 11pm, because the lighting goes out at some point, it's beautiful to die for.

It’s easy to see why this is one of the most recognised statues in Madrid, as it is impossible to miss.
That said, it’s also almost impossible to get near, due to the very busy roads that surround it. You’ll need to view it from across the street!

Very impressive statue of a female figure in a chariot within a fountain in the middle of the Plaza de Cibeles. You will have to go early or late to be confident of getting a good shoot unobscured by a vehicle but therearea number of good postcards available. Best with a background of the palacio.

Cibeles Fountain is a beautiful fountain located in the Plaza de Cibeles. Didn’t know at the time, but this fountain is named after Cybele, a Phrygian goddess. The fountain is difficult to get to, due to the heavy traffic in the area, but photo opportunities are available on the sidewalk at different angels around the plaza

This place is absolutely gorgeous, I would dare to say the most gorgeous of the whole city, every way you look there's something beautiful to admire. This fountain is gorgeous, but is one of the most hard monuments to take a photo of. There's no way to get closer, the transit is always on, you can just circle around on the sidewalks and try to have a zoom photo.

This beautiful fountain is located in the center of one of the most famous squares in Madrid, Cibelles. There is a lot of traffic in the square and around the roundabout where the fountain is located, which makes it difficult to observe and take photographs. It is the privileged location for celebrating the sporting victories of the Spanish football and basketball teams and, of course, Real Madrid. An authentic architectural marvel and a true postcard of Madrid.

The fountain is located in the Plaza de Cibeles, a Greek goddess is represented in the fountain, accompanied by lions; everything that symbolizes strength and power.
It is a point of interest, with great traffic and tourist visits. It's worth a visit.

Cibeles Fountain, built in 1782, symbol of Madrid.
Surrounded by beautiful buildings such as Army Headquarters, Casa de América, Madrid City Hall and Bank of Spain.
It is the Roman goddess Cybele, on a chariot pulled by two marble lions, the rest in stone.
Icon for fans of the Real Madrid football team.

The Cibeles Fountain is arguably the most beautiful fountain in Madrid. The fountain shows the Roman goddess Cibeles riding a chariot pulled by lions. It is right in the center of the Plaza de Cibeles in front of the Palladio de Cibeles, one of the most beautiful buildings in the city. I recommend checking this fountain out.

This fountain is hard to miss, because it is near the Prado museum and you will definitely pass it if you are travelling by the public bus.We took the pictures of the fountain in day and during night. It is really amazing at night, with the beautiful Cibeles Palace [city hall] behind it.
