Top ways to experience Campo del Moro and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Centro
Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Fabulous park to have fairly centrally in Madrid. Full of huge old trees. Really pretty green areas. Quite wild in some areas which I love. Definitely come and stroll around on the way to the cathedral or to Latino.

If you are visiting Palacio Real, take a little time to visit the adjoining gardens. There is a lot to enjoy, and it is kept in immaculate condition.

All busy bustling city needs green lungs.
These gardens are a delight, if a little hard on the legs to access.
Very well maintained and a welcome green oasis on a warm day.
Lots of people enjoying themselves.
Madrid has a few parks dotted around and this is a stadium.

These former palace gardens beneath the Palacio Real are a very pleasant green area to spend some time in. They provide excellent views of the palace and were originally designed to mimic the gardens surrounding the palace at Versailles and this can be seen by the east–west Pradera, a lush lawn with the Palacio Real as its backdrop. The gardens’ centrepiece, which stands halfway along the Pradera, is the striking Fountain of the Shells designed by Ventura Rodríguez in the 18th-century. Either side are very pleasant woodland walks which lead to surprise areas such as the picturesque rose garden hidden away.
The only issue with these gardens is that there is only on entrance and exit for the public and you have to walk all the way round to Paseo de la Virgen del Puerto to find it.

A very beautiful park next to the Royal Palace - the admission is free and it's open daily for the day. A quiet oasis after the crowds of the city, a wonderful place go go for a quiet break.

Designed in the 19th century under the rule of Queen Maria Cristina, Campo del Moro is an enormous green space abutting the Royal Palace. Open at 10am on weekdays and noon on weekends with free entry plan approximately 60 minutes to walk the loop around perfectly manicured grass, trees and flowers.

The park under the royal palace. Unfortunately there is currently only one entrance / exit - to the river. Very well done with a nice garden and a nice forest area, in places it is quite steep.

This is a park next to the Cathedral of Almudena. It is a good place to go for a run, have a picnic, or rest. It is a historical place in Madrid..In 1100s the Arabs set up a camp. In the 19th century it used to be a playground for the children of the royal family..

It is a very large and quiet park. Makes me feel shady when walking and resting. I didn't know that the background was a palace.
