This impressive monument is overlooking the lake in Retiro Park. I had a great view of the monument on the opposite side of the lake. You can rent a boat there. It was a nice and lovely place to rest and enjoy the serenity on...More

The monument is very beautiful and the view from across the lake is a nice picture. The park is very peaceful in the middle of a large metro area.

The monument is large and is set in front of the artificial lake within the Buen Retiro Park. I think it’s so large that it somewhat overpowers the lake and setting which is largely natural gardens in Forest. The cast lions are not overly detailed...More

This 30 meters high monument (100 ft) dominated the Retiro Lake front. Built to honor King Alfonso XII, it took some twenty years to make. We once even got to watch when a seeming army of workers tried to clean the monument of bird droppings....More

If you can only see one monument in Madrid then this is definitely the one. The place to see it from is from across the boating lake but unfortunately they are redoing the cobbles so the view is slightly marred by fencing.

It's hard to miss the monument to Alfonso XII as it dominates one side of the lake in the Retiro park. It does offer a good view of the lake and is worth wondering around its many columns.

I noted this impressive monument in Retiro Park but had to be satisfied with seeing from a distance as the park was closed on the three occasions that we visited. It is situated on the edge of a lake near the center of the park....More

Worth visiting if you are by the lake in the Parque del Retiro. We first spotted it from across the lake so just had to circle around and see it close up. Once there the finer details reveal themselves. Pleased we detoured.

We only viewed it from across the lake. Until now, I didn't know the monument had stairs you could climb. Something I'll have to do if I ever get a chance to go back. Post a review on your visit.
