Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The name of the square translates as "Canal Square", but nothing similar to canals is observed here or nearby. This is because the square got its name in honor of the chairman of the Spanish Government, José Canalejas, who was killed in 1912 by anarchists in front of a bookstore on this square. There is a memorial plaque on one of the buildings about this. The most beautiful and notable house on the square is the Allende House (with a turret), which again has nothing to do with the famous President of Chile, who died heroically during Pinochet's fascist coup in 1973

This square near Puerta del Sol had one of the most amazing Christmas lights I have seen. So it was very crowded with people and cars.
The square is lined with beautiful buildings like the stunning Hispano Americano Bank Building which has now the most exclusive shopping center Galleria Canalejas.

Plaza De Canalejas is a beautiful plaza that is always worth a look .
To be honest ,to call it a plaza is misleading as that implies a square, this is more of a wide boulevard but that said it's still cool ,the architectural gem here is Casa De Allende, an absolutely fantastic looking building, theres also some other grand buildings here and on and along Plaza De Canalejas are plenty of pubs, bars and restaurants, it's a very busy area and day or night is always busy with a great atmosphere.
Well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Madrid.

Unfriendly place. Bread taken back after giving false expectations based on which we ordered. Thought Spanish people were more friendly.

Plaza de Canalejas is a small by crowded and very busy square. There are numerous shops around this place, including cafes, restaurants, bars, souvenir shops, fashion boutiques and others. And there is some beautiful architecture to look at as well. People flock to this area like flies, or at least that is what we experienced on the day we visited! Perhaps it is better at other times. Worth checking out if you are in the vicinity.

Beautiful square surrounded by spectacular old building.
Surrounding area must have more bars and restaurants than most entire countries.
Like most of Madrid can be crazy busy till the early hours of the morning.
Do not miss.

Plaza De Canalejas is a wonderful square that we passed through as we were wandering around this part of town.
Although in my opinion this plaza looks more like a wide boulevard than a square but that said it's still a fantastic area.
The architecture is awesome here with some splendid art deco buildings that look amazing and there's some great cafes and bars not just in the plaza but on the streets leading off from the square.
It's an extremely busy and vibrant area and if crowds are not your thing then avoid as this place seems to be packed day and night.
Well worth checking out.

Very busy square in Madrid. Looking around you can see several beautiful old buildings. Overall, it is very crowded so it is hard to enjoy the area.

Plaza de Canalejas is next to the busy main street and crowds are continually walking through and it doesn't feel like a square as such, more like part of the strret.
