Top ways to experience Monumento Cervantes and nearby attractions

The area
Address
Neighbourhood: Arguelles
Just south of the sprawling campus of the Complutense University of Madrid, Arguelles exudes a fast-paced, collegiate vibe. The main street, Calle Princesa, is filled with twenty-somethings rushing between classes and errands, meeting up with classmates, and grabbing cheap beers and cheap eats. This is a prime shopping spot where the major Spanish clothing and department store chains are less busy than their downtown counterparts, and there is an array of casual dining options to choose from. Check out nearby outdoor spaces such as the lushly planted Plaza de España to the south, which is often filled with craft stalls. To the west of Arguelles is the giant Parque Oueste, a calm and picturesque park with its own Egyptian temple.

This impressive monument in the center of Plaza de Espana is a tribute to the giant of Spanish literature. King Alfonso XIII in 1915 ordered the construction of a monument in honor of the writer Miguel de Cervantes and a competition was held for the selection of a commemorative monument in the newly built Plaza de Espana. The statue of the writer, sitting with a book in his hand, seems thoughtfully looking at the two heroes who have arisen out of his imagination.

My twin brother Stephen and I hopped the metro down to Plaza De España to visit one of the must go plazas in this most beautiful of city's and dominating this square is Monumento Cervantes.
A great looking monument to Miguel De Cervantes who is considered the greatest writer in the Spanish language, unveiled in 1929 and the work of several architect's and sculptures including Rafael Martinez Zapatero,Pedro Muguruza,Lorenzo Coullaut Valero and Federico Coullart Valero Mendiguter .
The monument is very good to view ,its a big monument, a monolith with a group of statue's including Cervantes himself, Don Quixote and Sancho Panzo plus statues of Dulcinea and Aldonzo ,its very photogenic and most definitely well worth checking out if you're in the area and easy to locate along and on Plaza De España.

Monumento Cervantes is quite an impressive monument to a great Spanish figure. Construction work on the monument started in the 1920s but was not completed until the 1960s! There is a huge marble monument to Cervantes with some other smaller sculptures around it. There is a female figure, symbolising Spanish literature. At her feet lies a fountain featuring the coats of arms of all the Latin American countries. There are also some figures representing the five continents, holding up a globe with an allegorical figure of Fame or Victory, which symbolises the universal quality of Cervantes’ work. However what really stands out and commands attention is the twin bronze sculpture of Don Quixote and his sidekick Sancho Panza. The whole thing is an astonishing sight, worth checking out. The Plaza de Espana is a lovely spot and you can sit and relax for a bit as well.

This monument stands in tribute to Miguel de Cervantes and some I really wanted to see in the Plaza. Unfortunately, Plaza de Espana, is currently under renovation and completely closed with no information when it's going to re-open.

The Plaza de Espana is one of the most popular places in Madrid and crucial point for its traffic. In the centre of the square there is an impressive stone obelisk with the monument to Cervantes and his universal characters Don Quixote, on the back of his horse, Rocinante, and Sancho Panza, riding his mule.

The monument is great. It towers above the center of the Plaza de España, and I highly recommend seeing it. There were kids playing near it and standing on it and it looked very cool. It’s great!

Spain didn`t participate in the World war I,so it spent money not on airplanes and tanks on the Somme and Verdun, but on monuments. Monuments, whether it was the monstrous monument to Alfonso XII in the Retiro Park or this monument to Cervantes, were huge, multi-figured. Unfortunately, huge pedestals and a lot of sculptures on them didn`t allow you to see the main characters. Here, too, the contrast between the bronze figures of don Quixote and Sancho Panza and the huge 22-meter monument made of white stone didn`t allow me to see the monument to Cervantes here. I saw only a monument to his immortal heroes. And nearby any monument. Although it may be the happiness of a writer when characters start to live their own lives, whether it's Hamlet, the three Musketeers or Harry Potter.

The famous Cervantes monument was partly covered by a green tarpaulin, protected from the works going on in the plaza surrounding it. We could still appreciate its importance and grandeur, however, I hope the modernization of the place will be completed soon.

The Monument of Miguel de Cervantes in madrid is a piece of public art. Erected on the centre of the Plaza de Espana, it is dedicated to Miguel de Cervantes, a great writer in the Spanish language.
