Expansive plazas, local and foreign crowds, street performers, colorful lights, window shopping, restaurant signs promising the best paella, ham, and churros con chocolate- this is downtown Madrid, a collection of plazas interconnected by a network of side streets. Some of these side streets are wide pedestrian shopping routes, and some are hidden, so it's possible to duck in and out of the bustle as desired. The iconic Puerta del Sol is the giant crossroads of the city and a must-see attraction at any time of the day. The nearby Plaza Mayor, completely enclosed by historic red buildings, is an ideal place to grab a bite to eat outside, amidst scores of tables and people out for a stroll. Plaza Isabel II (also known as “Opera”) is smaller and a good meeting spot, and the stately Plaza del Oriente is the front yard of the Royal Palace. Centro can be touristy (pickpockets are unfortuately not unheard-of here), crowded, and sometimes gimmicky, but it is also the place to experience classic Madrid.

Located on Plaza Del Rey is Casa De Los Siete Chimereas ( House Of The Seven Chimneys ) which is a beautiful building with a really interesting history.
The legend attached to the building is cool,a Medieval murder mystery perhaps ? ,a young lady called Elena who was married to a captain in the Royal Troops who was away fighting in the Battle Of San Quentin were he unfortunately died ,grief stricken she was found dead in this house were here body disappeared in mysterious circumstances adding fuel to the story that she had in fact been murdered as rumours were circulating that she was the lover of none other than King Philip II ,a juicy story indeed, from the day she died untill present there have been numerous sightings of a ghost of a beautiful young woman dressed in white walking through the roof of Casa De Los Siete Chimereas, a cool story indeed, nowadays this structure is the seat of the Ministry Of Culture but this house is still regarded as one of the most famous and most haunted houses in Madrid .
A nice story ,my twin brother Stephen and I were enjoying a vermut sat outside Cafe Revoltosa in Plaza Del Rey and it was so good taking in the stunning architecture of this building, it looks even better with the beautiful water feature in front,a beautiful structure with a great history and in a fantastic location, well worth checking out if your in the Plaza Del Rey area.

Casa de las Siete Chimeneas got its name from its seven chimneys! It is an architecturally interesting and quite attractive 16th century building. It has undergone several changes over the centuries and it has given shelter to various groups and institutions, like banks, and at one time it served as an embassy. Today it is the headquarters of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Those office workers must feel special working in such an office! The building is located in Plaza Rey, itself a lovely public space with some greenery and a statue and fountain, as well as a number of eateries in the area. Worth a look.

Casa De Las Siete Chimeneas ( House Of The Seven Chimneys ) is a beautiful building built in the 16th century in the Renaissance style of architecture.
One of the few buildings of this type remaining in this vibrant city ,designed and constructed in 1577 by architect Antonio Silero ,this building has stood the test of time and it's said that Ghosts walk upon the rooftop on moonlit nights.
This beautiful and historic building is found on Plaza Del Rey in an area teeming with pubs, bars and restaurants and some amazing architecture and a major tourist destination.
Well worth checking out.
