About
In the Punic Wall you will encounter one of the most important episodes in the history of the Mediterranean, the Punic Wars between the Carthaginians and the Romans. You will meet the legendary past of Qart Hadast founded by the general Hasdrubal in 229 BC and its most significant, the wall, one of the few remaining Carthaginian relics still found in Spain. In addition, next to the wall, you can see the funerary crypt of the hermitage of San Jose built in the 16th and 17th centuries. Its walls offer a very macabre representation of the Dances of Death.

The whole Punic experience was very good. Having some limited mobility I was able to walk around the whole displays without difficulty. The information on the display board was in both Spanish and English which was most helpful and the video was excellent and in English too.
There was also a display on the Indiana jones films which made us wonder why it was there or if it was a temporary exhibition. It was good but only if you have watched any of the films. It was very interesting and informative and for two history geeks it was great. The crypt was fascinating!

There are better places to go to. The place is very small, with the main display being the crypt. The video you can see is quite good and is in English with Spanish subtitles, so you can practice your Spanish while watching:) You can do the whole thing in well under an hour and, for 3.50€ per person, it wasn't worth it. Others, like the Casa de Fortuna, the Augusteum etc are better.

Im giving it 5 stars because of the introductory video, which was made quite nicely. Explains the story of cartagena in a friendly, clear manner. The graphics, although not Pixar-like quality, are also quite nice. The ruins themselves are small, but do allows to get a good glance at the constructions back then.
If you go there, do go to the rooftop to have a panoramic view of the city, and of the beach !

It’s worth seeing. The informational video was good. The wall was just a small section. I understand the significance of the wall, I’m just used to walking around and taking in the sights. I expected it to be a little more than what it was. The crypt was closed off and could only be viewed from the overwatch deck. It’s worth seeing, but there’s not much of a “wow” factor to it. I would go again if I knew what I know now. It’s just that when you’re expecting a big museum or an elaborate display and it turns out to be just kind of “there it is” it’s kind of anti-climatic.

I came across this museum by chance and decided to pop in. You get to watch an introductory video explaining the history of the time when the wall was in use and its importance to the city - in Spanish or English. I was on my own as it was quite late in the day so I got to choose the language. Not sure what happens if it's busy. Then you can look at sections of the wall, which are all inside a purpose built building, the height of which corresponds to the height of the wall itself. There is also a rather spooky crypt and some exhibits in cases. As I didn't have much time I didn't read all of the boards but there seemed to be a lot of historical information - in Spanish and English. It made me want to read more about the Punic wars, Hannibal and his elephants etc.

The Spanish have done an excellent job, all things considered financially, of preserving and displaying the city walls of Qart-Hadasht as well as a medieval burial chamber nestled next to the Punic wall. The video gave an excellent, succinct history of Cartagena from its founding by Hannibal's brother through Roman conquest and onward. This is a spot that should not be missed if you are wanting to understand the city.

This was the first of out historic visits in Cartagena. It is all indoors, and has an interesting perspex floor that you can look down onto the wall below, and walk over it. There are steps down to the lower level to the wall. There was also a short film about the history of Cartagena, which was interesting and gave a good insight into the history of Cartagena. This would be the best place to first visit.
This museum is part of a group of attractions where you can buy a "multi" ticket to visit an amount of them, and save money, within Cartagena. The ticket lasts about a week.

Not the largest excavated historical site but one certainly packed with many interesting artefacts. Unfortunately the "grave-robbers" got there before the historians though there is still a great deal of interest visiting the "cellar" holding the remains of citizens past. Some small "tombs" set into the wall remain untouched but several are empty with a few bones left in others.The wall paintings are superb.In the upper gallery many gladiatorial artefacts are on show.

It's a small museum and the entry cost is €3.50 which I thought was a little steep, but it is worth a visit. There is something awesome about seeing such a well-preserved structure which is literally 2000 years old. I also found the crypt pretty amazing because although it is "only" from the 16th century the original bones and skull of the bodies interred are still present.
We started our visit with a useful short explanatory video which was in English, though I must confess that I wish they had used a native English speaker because the narrators accent was occasionally a little difficult to understand.

Wow! This is a wonderful and brave piece of museum/preservation. It is strikingly modern but also conjures up the look and feel of the original wall. Like many others in Cartagena it is a brilliant historical presentation.
