The Conception Castle is the best starting point to discover the city and acquire an overview of its 3,000 years of history. Located on the hill of the same name, it has served as the enclave to a Roman temple dedicated to Asclepius, a Muslim...more

Wonderful views over the whole region from this historic site. Unfortunately there is very little to see of the original castle. The very small museum is good with several intersting video presentations in Spanish with English subtitles. You have got to be pretty fit to...More

Lovely walks around the grounds and the views from the outside of the castle are breathtaking. Inside it is slightly claustrophobic in some of the chambers but there is a good video presentation in Spanish and English in a loop and all of the main...More

Felt it was good as part of a day of museums but probably wouldn't really recommend it as a must see by itself. You'll get the views anyway from the park. A film about cartagena history, then a few ancient building parts and museum displays....More

We were very disappointed with this site. Great views of the City, Harbour and surrounding hills bit little in the way of content. If there was a museum area with artifacts on display we never saw them....but it was busy with numerous crusiers who arrived...More

Easily accessible by elevator from the street level, then a very gentle walk through park-like scenery complete with peacocks to the main viewing area. Another must-see here.

In all honesty this is an interesting place that is much more than it looks from its modern looking exterior. There is real history here and so tastefully displayed. WARNING - there are lots of steps BUT there are wheelchair accessible alternatives - sadly the...More

Absolutely wonderful place. Unfortunately most of the history lesson is in Spanish. So you miss a lot but well worth visiting.

Thank you for your opinion UnlimitedCatSailing. The Concepción Castle has all the information (videos, panels...) in Spanish and English.

Much effort has gone into making this exhibit accessible and interesting. They have signs in English explaining the history and a great video of the past. Great views of the surrounding area too. Worth a visit.

A great walk up past the romantic theatre to the castle grounds, both free to explore, worth the extra 4 euros to explore the castle and it's history though with stunning views from the top over Cartagena. We departed down the lift into the street,...More

This is a fortification on a hill. There is not much exposure that appears to be a castle or fortification. However, it does provide a good view out over the city and is a high point for the immediate area. There are signs pointing out...More

The Castle is about 10 minutes walk and then there is a lift from the street up to a stage where there still is a bit of uphill walking to the very top. My Wife has COPD and we walked into the Town centre on fairly flat... More
