Overview
More
The Conception Castle is the best starting point to discover the city and acquire an overview of its 3,000 years of history. Located on the hill of the same name, it has served as the enclave to a Roman temple dedicated to Asclepius, a Muslim fortress, a medieval castle or the place where the siren was installed that warned the population of the bombing during the Civil War. Also, from the fortress, one can obtain the best panoramic views of the city and its natural port. Everything within reach thanks to the panoramic lift that saves walking up the hill.

Peahens roaming with chicks. Great views especially from the gardens. Do not bother with lift, stroll through the gardens and look over into the roman amphitheatre. Glass floor walkways a little unnearving fir me.

I got the audio guides and we all really enjoyed our visit. Great views all around the city. Nice and cool inside as it was hot outside. We got a special ticket that allowed us 3 sites. So great value. One of the reviews early...More

Yes, the 'Castle' is impressive, but the walk (or lift ride) up is more impressive, and the views are interesting, if not mind-blowing. Essentially, it's a city park and very nice as such - look out for the peacocks!

A must see. With a full day of sightseeing ahead, we took the lift from Calle Gisbert after visiting the Civil War museum next door. The castle gives great views of the surrounding city and port, with viewboards identifying the main points of interest. Inside...More

It’s an 11th C Arab castle and the starting point to understand the city, but there is not much to see inside. Take the paid elevator to the top of this very high hill- as you face inland from the cruise dock it’s around the...More

Not to be missed. Great views from the top of the entire city and harbour. Good audiovisual films in different locations. Good lift up, easy to walk down by steps and ramps. Big enough space to swallow up people and not feel crowded.

The Castle is about 10 minutes walk and then there is a lift from the street up to a stage where there still is a bit of uphill walking to the very top. My Wife has COPD and we walked into the Town centre on fairly flat... More
