Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Extraordinary . Truly exceptional! In two parts, we cover the entire history of the Spanish navy since the 15th century. More than 40 wooden models of numerous uniforms and original pieces from the history of the navy. Reconstruction of submarine cabins, and in the second part of the museum the highlight of the show, the world's first submarine. 20 meters long, we discover a host of things there. Perfect staging. No registration in French but possibility of taking an audio guide

It's free, but you are asked to volunteer with 3 euro payment. We volunteered and after the visit decided the museum exhibition was worth much more. Very informative, full exhibition, especially the hall of Isaac Peral with the first Spanish submarine from the 19 century! Mind the hours, museum does not work during siesta hours (14-16:30).

I visited here with my husband, our 15 year old Son and a couple of friends of who one is in the Royal Navy so I thought he would enjoy it.
It’s very similar the whole way round. Lots of model ships as they would have been in their time and artefacts from the era’s. There wasn’t a lot explained in English and was a bit technical for my level of Spanish.
Not the best museum I’ve visited but if you’re in Cartagena and find yourself with an hour free then visit. It’s €3 each so doesn’t break the bank. Smaller children might find it more visually entertaining.

Many exhibits to see, there are two halls to this museum. Reduced entry fee for over 65's, which is common throughout most visitor centers in Spain.

Interesting little museum which is well laid out with easy access. The bonus was free entry for the more mature of us.

The museum is housed over two buildings with one of them bespoke for the partially restored Peral submarine (which is similar to (but I think predates) Holland displayed in the Portsmouth Submarine museum). Starting with the age of sail, displays move towards modern times with an extensive area dedicated to submarines and mine warfare. Numerous models dotted around are intricate and interesting - including a statue/sculpture made entirely of rope near commencement of tour route. Majority of large information panels are also in English but not those relating to individual objects which can be a bit frustrating. The Peral hall is dedicated to history and restoration of this early submarine with an adjacent video alternating between Spanish and English presentations on a loop.

Entrance is by euro 3 donation and well worth the small price - I spent an enjoyable hour or so wandering round. Restrooms are available within the main building where there’s also a small gift shop.

We were staying at the NH hotel and the museum was one block away. There is no set admission but donations are accepted. There is a second building with the restored submarine Isaac Peral. Very interesting.
