- Lee D209 contributionsA beautiful building - definitely worth visitingLocated in central Valencia this is a gem of a historic building and worthy of a visit (the ticket price is also increadibly cheap at just 2 euros and free on Sundays). It only takes 15 minutes or so to walk round the buildings but there is also an informative film which gives a lot of information about La Llotja itself and also Valencia. Would highly recommend.Visited March 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 23 March 2023
- SHA12311Cairo, Egypt843 contributionsWorth the visitRight next to the Central Market this place is surely worth the visit. Layed out over 3 levels most halls have video introductions with wall screening overview of the history of the location. Amazing hand sculptured stone, pillars, walls & wooden ceilings. Worth the vidit indeed. Recommended.Visited April 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 25 April 2023
- Semi-retired-exworkaholicMontreal, Canada41 contributionsDon't hesitate, put it in your itinerary!Go! My husband and I were hesitant to visit what seemed on the Internet like just a large room with columns. it's absolutely beautiful, and it's story and history interesting. I highly recommend visiting with a tour guide or reading up on its history before to fully appreciate the experience.Visited July 2023Travelled with familyWritten 16 July 2023
- Jo ALondon, United Kingdom19 contributionsAn amazing building in the heart of ValenciaThe silk exchange is a UNESCO building and it's architecture and gardens are stunning. If you want some quiet reflective time in a beautiful building on a hot day then this is a must for only 2 euros for entrance. The videos are informative and bring the carvings and buildings to life. Absolutely beautiful.Visited July 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 30 July 2023
- eitleanOxford, United Kingdom20 contributionsUnusualWorth a visit. The large meeting space with the tall spiral columns is very impressive. There is a further room with a decorated ceiling, but it is not as impressive as the main room. A helpful video gives a condensed historical summary.Visited August 2023Written 6 August 2023
- aida68Miami, Florida458 contributionsStunning buildingA truly stunning building with so much history. It has gothic style ceilings in the main floor with tall spiral columns, which are very impressive. There is a room accessed via the stairway from the orange garden with wooden carved and painted ceiling, a spectacular medieval work of art.Visited September 2023Travelled with familyWritten 3 October 2023
- Thomas VOakland, California16,858 contributionsThe Old Silk MarketOne of the major historic sites in town, a true knock-out as it is as pretty as it can be. The old silk market with a great video that tells its story. Great Renaissance architecture, cloisters, a big hall with beautiful pilars, a courtyard with orange trees. We loved the whole experience.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 October 2023
- Jennifer BAboyne, United Kingdom107 contributionsA gothic masterpiece. Well worth a visitA stunning gothic masterpiece. We stumbled upon this gem while lost around the historic centre. Delighted we did find it. Cheap entry and stunning architecture. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit and marvelled at the delights around each corner. Would certainly recommend to anyone visiting Valencia.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- packedandready2go940 contributionsBeautiful and historic buildingThis Unesco heritage site deserves its status. The large room with columns is breathtakingly beautiful. The ceiling of the room on the second floor is also stunning. Do not count on spending a lot of time here as there are only a limited number of rooms to visit.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 9 November 2023
- IAN DWigan, United Kingdom19,629 contributionsUNESCO buildingThis is a lovely building to go round with a small admission fee. The original silk centre with a most amazing main room with impressive columns and roof. Go through the courtyard to the upstairs and the roof in the upper room is breathtaking.Visited November 2023Travelled soloWritten 14 November 2023

We chose not to get the audio tour & were pleasantly surprised by a good video inside, explaining the history & function of different rooms. Beautiful architecture & details with a bright courtyard full of lemon & orange trees. Definitely worth a visit!

We were València on a Sunday and made a point of visiting the Silk Exchange … it’s free to enter on Sundays and we loved it.
The architecture is wonderful and there is a delightful garden area to see, this building is a UNESCO world heritage site, silk was traded here and Valencia became a very important and wealthy city because of it.
There are detailed information plaques concerning the history of the buildings (with English) which was useful as my Spanish is still at an early stage of development..
They have some very interesting stone gargoyles if you like that kind of thing….
Wandering around inside you can imagine the people whose lives were affected by the trading that went on here, we took our time absorbing the atmosphere.
There is an underground vault area down a steep winding staircase and when we visited it sounded like there was rock guitar playing down there… turned out the music was coming from a street performer outside and the stone acoustics amplified the music into the vault….was surreal!
The Silk Exchange is definitely well worth a visit in Valencia.

Free on Sunday, and the last day of the year, so it was a nice, short visit. We did not use an audio guide or anything, just strolled through the courtyard and several rooms. Interesting history, but we were in and out within 30 minutes. I know, blasphemous.

This turned out to be one of the highlights of my trip to Valencia, even though at first glance it does have the air of being a square building of questionable interest.
Somehow, I accidentally skipped the queue trying to get in, as everyone was being held outside (I think to let a group in) and I had rocked up to the steps to see what the hold up was when I was suddenly waved through, so apologies to anyone standing behind me (please blame the staff for that nonsense).
It was free as I had a visit Valencia pass (and may also be free anyway on the weekends - I’m not sure) and it was immediately a nice oasis of calm around a pleasant little fountain. The video explaining its history was clear and subtitled into good English, and clearly linked the building to the history of the city, and the staff on the front desk were pleasant and also spoke excellent English.
There’s not much to see, as it’s mainly to soak up the atmosphere of a Valencia from a different time and admire the building’s interior, but it was an interesting aside into how business was done there, once upon a time. It is a UNESCO world heritage site for a reason, after all.

What a well-designed audioguide! I love information to compliment my visits to historic sites and I liked this guide very much. There are 23 spots shown on a very clear map, but you can listen to fewer than that if you wish. The map tells you which ones are the most essential by marking these in red. We ended up listening to all the red spots and a good number of the black ones. As for the historic site itself, I will just echo others in saying that it was amazing to see.

Grazie

No all'interno non vi è alcuna armatura. Nell'ultima sala viene proiettato un video che illustra la storia della Lonja, in ogni caso io ti consiglio l'audioguida.

Do you know the hours of operation and the price of admission? Also, is this associated with the Silk Museum, and if so, is the Silk Museum worth a visit? Thanks!

First, cruise ship arriving at 10 am, departing at 6 pm- enough time ?
Second: do you get to see only stingrays and starfish or other fish as well ?
Many thanks.

I would see the beautiful older parts of the city first. The Mercado and the Silk Exchange are almost across the street from each other. The main square and Basilica are close and wandering the streets for an hour or more a delight. The hop on hop off bus will drive by the City of Arts and Sciences and give you a view of the amazing architecture without having to spend the day there. Be sure to take the correct route since there are two in the city. It is really worth it. With only one day I would not go to the Aquarium which has in fact a quite a large variety of sea life. By the way the pastry shops are wonderful. In fact the best of any place in Europe that we have found including France where we spent a month. Valencia is a treasure. Enjoy.

Noi avevamo la Valencia Card e quindi non ci siamo posti il problema. Consigliamo vivamente di farla se stai qualche giorno.
