They seem to specialize in cash only clothing and linen and basket sales . Shoppers paradise and it seems a nice weekend day trip
For many Spaniards .. to enjoy a meal or coffee or shop. One whole street was Soxs and underwear .

I love this covered market which draws big crowds. The Plaza also draws crowds as it holds lots of little restaurants serving market foods. People stop here after shopping to eat and drink and sit for a while. Beautiful architecture all around.

The plaza around the market is one of the busiest areas in the city. Lots of cafe, grand buildings and full of hustle and bustle make for a great ambience

One of my favorite squares in town because the terrific city market is right here and there is so much food and drink around. Very lively at all times of the day. Often there is a busker outside singing, some quite good. Great on a sunny day, sit under an umbrella.

There is so much in this market. My wife was able to find saffron at a very good price. If you want any kinds of meats, preservatives, fruits vegetables, fish. Seafood. Anything Spain you can find it here

There are many historical buildings boarding the Plaza del Mercado. Unfortunately for us, the Mercat Central was closed while we were in Valencia. The Silk Exchange is a must visit attraction and is the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Valencia.

The Plaza del Mercado itself appeared earlier than any building currently standing on it. Trade originated at the gates of the Muslim wall Bab al Kaisaria, because they were not allowed inside. After the reconquista, the right to trade was confirmed. Two buildings on the square confirm its market name, one does not. The most important building of the Silk Exchange is Lonja de la Seda, a masterpiece of late Valencian Gothic, the only UNESCO World Heritage Site in Valencia. The building of the Central Market with a green parrot on the spire is also a masterpiece, but already of the Valencian Art Nouveau, built in the XX century. The only non-market object is the Church of St. John's, Baroque in appearance, but this is the result of numerous alterations of the XVIII century, originally it was Gothic like Lonja de la Seda. The alterations were caused by fires of the XIV and XVI centuries, which preserved only the nave and some elements inside. The entrance to the church is on the back side.

This place is typical Valencia. I love the relaxed vibe of this square with statue of Neptune and the 19 fair maidens each holding a chalice pouring water in homage to the Turia. Great place for people watching, grabbing a coffee or light refreshment and be sure to go and see the Holy Grail in the nearby church on the square.
