Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Italians have a diminutive suffix for small squares. Given the size of the Piazza Duomo, I would call it a Piazzetta rather than a Piazza. In addition, it is filled with cars during the day. Its only obvious advantage is not the view of the Cathedral, which is so-so , but the view of the city from the observation platform. Not the best in Matera. but it is noteworthy.

Views are nice from the square, as you can see a large area of old Matera with all the rooftops, stairs, winding streets.

After visiting the renovated Duomo you can enjoy an aperitif in a nearby bar with soft jazz music and a nice view

The square itself is not too nice or large but it’s a must see site. It’s located on the highest point of the town, so the view is breathtaking. We enjoyed it. Don’t miss the cathedral either, of course.

The Matera Cathedral sits on the highest hill and you'll need medium hard incline to reach it. In front of it is a small square with several bars and a viewing terrace with great views.

This is a busy square in front of the Duomo. There are many cafes and restaurants. Streets leaving from here can take you to many of the attractions in the city. There are also places that offer views of the surrounding area.

Apart from the Doumo, the square in front of it offers great views over the old city of Metera.
A must see in Matera.
And of cours, hop into the Cathedral as well.
