Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful church and the place where my great grandfather was baptized. I wanted to see the certificate of his baptism. There is an office with posted hours and I went there daily for 4 days and each time told closed come back tomorrow. The church bookstore has employees that follow you like a shadow if you want to shop … very spooky.

It’s right beside the Underground City but hard to see as there is construction hoarding along the outside. Fantastic inside with wooden ceiling and not many seats....and worth a visit.

San Lorenzo Maggiore is an amazing church to visit whilst in Naples. The statues and paintings and the architecture of the church is very impressive.

Naples is such a fascinating city. Much to discover. San Lorenzo encompasses a timeline that has it's beginnings in the Greek period, travelling through to the Roman period and eventually to the medieval period. Unbelievable layer upon layer of ancient history. At the time of writing the entrance fee is one Euro. The entrance fee and a guide is only 10.00 Euros. The guide brought the complex alive, she was clear, and her passion for her city was evident. Money well spent.

Very old and with a long history behind, it looks quite austere compared with the other lavish Naples churches, but it so much worth a visit.

This was a fantastic find in a super cool neighborhood. In hindsight I would have hired a guide as the online audio tour we found lacking. Highly recommend this interesting place plus the church is beautiful as well.
You can do this site coupled with a few others in a tour. Wish we had done that as they take you to a few other places but those places are tough for people with claustrophobia. There was no problem seeing this site if you have issues with confined places.
Highly recommend and also walk around the neighborhood and eat pizza. Truly a Neapolitan experience.

Don’t miss visiting the underground Romam streets that were covered over due to flooding. They have now been excavated and a tour underneath is fantastic. Our tour guide explained everything in great detail which was absolutely fascinating. It is very well preserved and quite extraordinary to see the ancient town buried underneath the modern one.

Dropping down 6m under the church on the guided tour you'll arrive in a perfectly preserved Roman street with its pavements and shop fronts, many showing signs of what was on sale. A fascinating cross-section of past life in Naples.

One of many churches in Naples but this one stands out for how large it is inside. We had stopped for a drink nearby otherwise I would not have noticed externally as there was a lot of scaffolding up nearby. Inside is open plan and huge, perhaps not as ornate as some churches but never the less worth a look.

Visited St Lorenzo Maggiore and went down to the Graeco-Roman level – it was as if you had entered a parallel world – streets, shops, markets – well lit and presented and you could easily imagine the hustle and bustle reflecting exactly what was going on 6m above our heads. Although the church and attached museum were very good it is the archaeology of this site that enthralls - wonderful and well worth a visit.
