Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

During our January visit to Naples, Fiorella Squillante guided my multi-generational family, aged 7 to 83. Thanks to Fiorella's contagious enthusiasm for her city we learned so much about the city's place in history and the Naples region's contemporary politics. When we got on the train back to Rome, we really felt that our visit to Naples and Pompeii was time well spent. Our guide was a true professional in every sense of the word.

We had a wonderful food tour with a guide who not only knows Naples intimately (she lives there) but who also is an art historian. She guided us in history, local food practices, famous and infamous graffiti and even how to cross the street safely. She told fun stories, introduced us to many chefs and small business owners and went above and beyond in many ways to make it a memorable day in Napoli.

We used Vesuvius vs. Pompeii Tours for both a day trip to Pompeii and Sorrento and then a food tour of Naples. Elaine was very easy to work with and provided a great price for our family of six to have private tours (and transportation) for both activities. We absolutely loved the tour guides (Sabina in Pompeii and Fiorella in Naples). Both were very informative and brought life to the experience. With three teenage boys and a grandmother, we had a wide range of interests and both guides found interesting things to discuss to keep everyone's attention. I whole-heartedly recommend Vesuvius vs Pompeii Tours and would gladly use them again when we travel to Italy!

I did a tour of Elena Ferrante's Naples with Fiorella, and this is a must for anyone who loves the books (or the HBO series). Fiorella is extremely knowledgeable and charismatic, and Naples history is sprinkled into the tour as well lots of useful tips for visiting Naples. The driver was charming and knowledgeable as well. I would recommend Fiorella (who also does art and food tours) to anyone, and will use them again when I return to Naples. (Oh, and there are also some delicious snacks!)

Simply stunning customised solo visits to Villa Poppea and Herculaneum were high points of my visit to the Napoli area. My visit was facilitated by Elaine, who not only provided top class guides, bkut also helped with many practicalities of site access, transport and ticeting.
Villa Poppea at Torre Annunziata is a hidden gem, My guide, Giaconda, was knowledgeable and enthralling as she enlived the dramatic and impressive ruins and explained the history, conservation and iconography of the site.
Pompeii was amazing and no amount of prior learning can prepare you for the experience. Roberto from Vesuvios vs. Pompeii was an extraordinary guide: knowledgeable and enthusiastic, masterly weaving the way to all of the highlights: shops, houses, working areas, public building sand theatres - avoiding crowds but missing nothing. She was very patient with my many questions and is obviously highly-respected by other guides and site staff.
I cannot recommend Vesuvios vs. Pompeii more highly.

Can I give more stars?? If you go to Naples your guide must be Fiorella. All you have to do is read her biography to understand why. We were lucky to have Fiorella as our guide to the Archaeological Museum of Naples in preparation for a tour the next day of Herculeum and Pompei. My only regret is that we did not have the time to tour Naples through Fiorella. I was sad to say goodbye to her after our last tour. I felt like I was saying goodbye to a friend.

Best tour there is! Sabina was absolutely amazing! We went with 3 young kids and she tailored the tour to keep it interesting and engaging for them as well as for my husband and I! Sabina was not only extremely knowledgeable about Pompeii and Vesuvius, but also Sorrento and all other surrounding areas. It was fascinating speaking with her! We highly recommend this tour and Sabina to anyone visiting Pompeii and Vesuvius!

This was the highlight of our trip by far! Betty met us as soon as we got off the ferry and we headied straight to Anacapri. She told us a lot of history about her beautiful island and knew all the best places to avoid the crowds and best places to capture magnificent pictures and ordering the best gelato and sandwiches. It was well worth the $$. Definitely recommend booking and asking for Bettina to all my friends and everyone else!

This was our first trip to Napoli and we booked the Street Art and Pizza tour with Giuliana on day one. On day 2 the Caravaggio tour with Fiorella. Both guides were amazing and the tours interesting, entertaining and informative. So warm, welcoming and best of all they made us feel like locals. They introduced us to this incredible diverse city with so much pride, enthusiasm and a genuine passion for Napolis rich history. We brought our 17 year old son who will forever be in love with this great city. Cant wait to come back and book another tour with Vesuvius vs. Pompeii Tours.

Fabulous tour of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Our guide, Giancola, met us at the Circumvesuviana Pompeii stop and sped us through the queue. She was so great at making the city come to life for our family. We spent about 2 hours in Pompeii, then we ate lunch, and met her again in Herculaneum. We were so glad that we toured both sites, since they represent such different perspectives from the 79 AD eruption. Grazie Mille, Giancola!

I am looking at booking a trip to pompeii and Vesuvius.........is it worth paying for an organised trip or is it easy to self book and make my own way there?
Written 16 July 2022
You could book online via several websites in Naples but to be honest, it’s easier and cheaper to pop into one of many little shops around Naples city centre and book and pay while you’re there. You can even arrange to be picked up from your hotel.

My husband and I would like a private half day tour on afternoon of October 14. We want to go to Pompeii and maybe Vesuvius or Sorrento. My husband has mobility issues and walks very slowly with a cane. We would need to use the accessible entrance to Pompeii. Are you able to do your tour from their? What is the cost for the two of us?

Hey, I'm hoping to visit Naples in October. I would like to visit Mount Vesuvius but from looking at photos am a big sceptic.
I have a massive fear of heights and some of the pathways look a bit slim.
Could anyone advise please as to if I am being over cautious or right to be fearful?
Thank you to any help given

How much and what time does the half day Pompeii trip leave from Naples? I can't find any scheduling or prices on here or the website and we're interested in tomorrow.

Hello everyone.
I am after tour recommendations for Pompeii, Herculaneum and Mt Vesuvius. Can two be done together in the same day? Which two are closest together? Is it better to pre book or buy tickets when you get there? What is the best way to get there?
Thanks
Sarah

We did Pompeii and Vesuvius on the same day no problem. We booked and paid for tickets at a tourist centre in Naples in advance.
This was great as we had a private air conditioned bus that picked us up near our apartment in the morning.
We had a fast track entry into Pompeii and had a fantastic tour guide for a two hour visit.
Our day trip included a nice lunch and we went in a different bus to Vesuvius. Be prepared for a tough climb to the top but it’s really worth it.
I don’t know about Herculaneum as we didn’t go there. I’m 64 and my wife is 60 so if we can do it! 👍😎
