Great piazza to visit especially on a sunny day. The church is amazing but it's also worth a walk around to see the other buildings and take some amazing evocative photos. Lots of eateries around to make the most of your visit.

If you are walking through the Spaccanapoli, the main artery of the old town (now pedestrianized) you will find a triangular square, with a spire on the middle. The piazza S. Domenico is the best place to take coffee and sweets, specially at the famous "Scaturchio". At the square you can visit the homonym church which contains many works of art, the nearby capella Sansevero with its wonderful statues (the veiled Christ ect.) and the nearby palaces. One of them is a university department, so the square is a meeting point for the youth and at the nearby piazetta Nilo there are some nice pubs were people drink an have fan out in the street. In the evening, near the closing time sometimes the street vendors use to play traditional music with there instruments.
P.S. Also I should mention that in one of the noble palaces of the square, Palazzo Sansevero there is a picturesque little hotel suitable for the culture passionates.

do you want to know how neapolitans spend their spare time? go to the very heart of the City and enjoy the coffee bars, musical bands in the street, pizzerie, bars, original and vintage shops, ateliers etc etc, people are there, they relax and enjoy life with each other. When I go to Naples I always go there.

This is a lively square with lots of restaurants, the Basilica, the monument and lots of people. Good place to hang out. Recommended.

As is often the case, I stumbled across the square looking for something else. A relaxing place to visit as there are cafes, plus the basilica to visit.

Square with one of the most unusual facdes I have seen in a long time, the church of San Domenico Maggiore. Built in the 1200s and rebuild / remodelled several times since it is a major Dominecan repository of relics and other items.

It is a city afterall. Noisy, full of people. Teenagers up till 4am drinking and shooting off firecrackers. Not an area to stay if you want sleep. Good food and gelato in the area. Walking distance to many things

Great area all around this historic area is packed full of history amazing bars restaurant look back behind old arches see the original Roman and 15th century architecture we stayed at Domus apartments in Sando Domineco. Maggiore amazing time and love Napoli.

There is so much going on in this little piazza. On the one side it looks like a/the lottery going on with numbers written on boards and people sitting or standing and looking and cheering. I never got the gist of it.
It has an extremely busy nightlife. We stayed close by and could hear the music and people in the distance. In the mornings the evidence of a party was clear. Lots of bottles and wrappers etc. The dustbins bulging.
But every morning it was cleaned up. I have never in any city experienced so much cleaning. Naples are continuously being cleaned and it makes me sad that it gets critic for being dirty when it is probably the tourists that help to dirty as well.
There are two restaurants in the piazza which are usually full and the inside of the church is something you have to see

This pretty square is bordered on the south end by the street-alley Spaccanapoli, on the north end by the nave of the church of San Domenico, the Palazzo dei Di sangro (where musician Carlo Gesualdo murdered his unfaithful wife Maria d'Avalos and her lover Don Fabrizio).
In the center you have the Guglia (spire) of San Domenico; an 18th century obelisk honoring San Domenico for having stamped out the plague epidemic in 1656; the statue of San Domenico (founder of the Dominican order of monks) tops the obelisk.
Finally around the square you also find cafés, restaurants and a university building.

La chiesa fa parte di un convento Domenicano, è frequentata da varie associazioni turistiche che la frequentano illustrandone (a pagamento) le peculiarità, poi ci sono i volontari che aiutano i Domenicani a curare e proteggere la chiesa ed i padri stessi che l'hanno fondata.
Nel secondo e terzo caso basta fare un'offerta alla chiesa, nel primo caso credo basti una stretta di mano.
