It was praised to us as comparable to Place Vendôme in Paris… far from it.
The place is clean and there is no graffiti, it’s true, but overall nothing exceptional.
The nearby Via Mille was supposed to be the luxury street, but apart from a few brands, it cannot compete with its big sister in Milan (Monte Napoleone)

Very pretty! But be aware that there are lost of stairs. Take the train to the Chiaia station and then go down direction to the ocean. It is easier to go down. But before, stop the see the architecture and littles shops and cafes.

Great area. Chiaia has some of the best nightlife in Naples. Chiaia also offers amazing shopping, luxury brands are all within short walking distance. Plenty of excellent restaurants in the area.

I came into Napoli via train and was immediately turned off by how neglected the city was. However, we visited Chiaia and took a stroll along the water and were pleasantly surprised. This neighborhood is beautiful. Napoli's hidden gem! It's funny that while most people were warning us to avoid Napoli, we realized that we did the most shopping, had the best pizza and enjoyed the best view of Vesuvius, Capri etc from napoli harbor. Don't let people deter you.

I visited Napoli in May 2012 for 11 nights,I chose to stay in the Chiaia district, just outside of the Centro Storico.I felt as a single traveller this area would suit my needs, safe, very local with excellent restaurants, transport links and lovely walk to the centre along the waterfront,I stayed in the small and very Neapolitan Casa Mira Napoli, this proved to be an excellent choice for me,I found the owner Gina and her family and staff very friendly and helpfull, and I was given plenty of local knowledge and information on restaurants and attractions in the surrounding area.I enjoyed a lovely breakfast each morning with fresh pastries, ham, cheese and lovely local tomatoes and fresh bread, which I ate on my lovely terrace each morning.I would not hesitate to stay at the Casa Mira b+b if I am lucky enough to visit Napoli in the future,Patricia Pierce

Don't take my title of the review as the geographic location. It's just an ironic class reference. If you are feeling uneasy about coming to Naples from all the stories you've heard, just come to Chiaia and stay in this area. You have everything you need here - high end designers, wine bars, lovely historic trattoria, wide streets with some nice smaller character filled streets, minimal scooter/Vespa action. All streets around Chiaia are perfectly safe, not just the main drag, in fact, the main street of Chiaia is the least attractive part of it. I'm not sure how anyone who has traveled widely could possibly see any street in this area as looking deprived. In fact, if you only stay on the main street, you'll miss the beautiful Antica Latteria trattoria and an awesome wine bar called Cap'Alice. It is the well to do location of the Neapolitans. Naples though is not necessary 'Italian', it is proudly Neapolitan and if you want to experience the vibrant, scruffy, friendly but slightly edgy side of this, you go to Centro Storico. If you prefer going where all English speaking tourists go, or feel you can't look past the graffiti of the Centro Storico, Chiaia is for you but you will miss about 98% the historic churches and museums, which are in Centro Storico. Personally, I liked both sides of Naples.

If you want Italian fashion, go to Chiaia, particularly along Via Chiaia, which begins at the foot of Via Toledo one block from the end at Piazza Plebiscito. The road is essentially a walking street crammed with specialty shops, restaurants and clothing stores. And don't forget to investigate the small cross streets as that is where some of the real bargains are to be found.

We stayed in an apartment 200m SW of Amadeo metro. Easy to get from/to the airport (EUR23 fixed fare by taxi). Only 3 stops from the Amadeo metro to Garribaldi, from where we got very cheap tickets on the Circumvesuviano train to Herculaneum and Pompeii. Only 2 stops to Cavour, for the Centro Storico and archaelogical museum. Up the funicular to Cimarosa for Castel Sant Elmo (great views). On foot Chiaia has loads of shops, bars and restaurants in a maze of little and a promenade along the sea front. Even late at night it always felt utterly safe. We were so glad we chose to stay there and experience Naples than the Sorrento option.

my big tip about napoli is get out of the old town that is all that seems to be on the tourist maps they give out. many people told me how dirty and dangerous napoli was, but once I found my way around I'll forever tell those people they don't know what they're talking about. go to castel d'ovo and the chiaia district, then take the funicular up to the vomero district.

So Chiaia is the "posher" neighbourhood of Naples located just behind the Piazza del Plebiscito and closest to the sea. It is clearly well maintained and rather expensive as it doesn't feel like you are in Naples. It is not chaotic or noisy.
Great for a little stroll with plenty of places to shop and eat, but in all honesty I prefered the hustle and bustle of the city centre...the true Napoli.

Vorrei un consiglio su quale ristorante scegliere per il cenone di capodanno in questo quartiere dove alloggeremo in quei giorni ... ci piacerebbe un ristorante con musica dal vivo. Grazie mille

Hello everyone,
I am thinking of spending a week here while visiting Naples, Pompeii and Amalfi and was wondering if you all felt very safe and if you all could share where you all stayed especially while walking at night . Hotel or AirB-B suggestions are welcomed too. Thanks!

Are the bars and restaurants expensive in this area?
Written 25 June 2017
No we actually found the local restaurants very reasonable. The pasta with clams is served absolutely everywhere and averaged around 10/12 euro. House wine was from around 8 euro for 500ml. Lots of locals eat in the area and often we were the only tourists.

Is anything open on a Sunday evening in chiaia?
Written 2 April 2017
50 years ago (I know, long long time ago) I stayed in a Pensione in Chiaia. I'm trying to find the address Via S. Pasquale a Chiaia, 83, which I believe was the Pensione Panorama. I can't find a building with that address. Does anyone know if the street addresses were changed over the years?

If I want a rental overlooking the Bay of Naples/Vesuvius should I rent in the Vomero district or Chiaia? My friend and I are avid walkers; planning to be there from June 7 to the 14. I loved the evening sunset overlooking Certosa di San Martino. I speak Italian fluently and have already seen all the major Naples sights on day trips from Sorrento. We're early risers and like to eat in most nights - which district offers more in way of food markets, cafes, etc. Within walking distance to subway? thank you
Written 13 March 2016
There are plenty of markets and shops in Chiaia but it's basically down by the sea round the corner so you are very unlikely to get any Vesuvius views. Vomero is much higher and has the potential for views - just check out the property photos and reviews carefully. Castelo St Elmo in Vomero has spectacular views to the South.
