Getting there takes a bit of research. There is a bus from the main piazza if you can find it. The museum is grandiose and to see it all you could spend a full day. But that's not a bad thing because you could stop for lunch in the tranquil courtyard restaurant. Save time to stroll the spacious grounds too. From the lookout point in front of the museum you can see the entire city and Bay of Naples and Vesuvius, just the way the kind could see it from this window in the Palace/Museum.

A beautiful museum which is on a hill. There are lots to see inside. Make sure you have plenty time to walk outside as there are lots of trees and take photos of Naples. We went around 4 o’ clock and we were disappointed. We were not allowed to visit the upper level of the museum where there were paintings of Caravaggio… we paid 14 euros and visited the ground floor only. We enjoyed the outdoors it was so peaceful! Make sure you visit this museum!!!

That this is a very rich museum cannot be gainsaid. However during our visit we ended up wasting a lot of time roaming around the palace rooms on the first floor, which are OK if you're into that sort of thing. But in fact the most precious works of art are housed on the top floor, and you don't want to be exhausted by the time you get there. The centrepiece here is the absolutely marvellous painting named Flagellazione (the Flagellation of Christ) by Caravaggio. But the halls are chock-a-block with beautiful works by renowned artists such as Mattia Preti and Artemisia Gentileschi.

Capodimonte is one of the top museums of Italy: whenever I am in town I can't miss another visit. This time, however, the centerpiece of attention according to the personnel was not the permanent collection, but a special "Napoli Napoli" exhibition, where visitors were hastily directed. The exhibition decor was totally tacky, with puppets, Pulcinellas, and supposedly jocular vignettes, while the compulsory audio guides blasted music and irrelevant comments from the superego-driven voice of the museum director. Of the lovely Ruoppolo paintings previously hanging on the walls, only one was left to make space for humdrum restyling. What a shame!

The museum collections are always outstanding featuring Caravaggio Titian Simone Martini and many others but this time and until June they have the exhibit called "Lava Porcelain and Music - never seen anything like it !
Throughout beautiful ballroomsa and halls they represent the life in Naples in the 18th with costumes form the San Carlo Opera House, furniture, objects and music all along .
Including in the tickets you will received headsets with all explanations and music to accompany you dated from the period. It is hard to describe but believe me worth a visit !

if you had the chance to see what the capodimonte brought at the Petit Palais in Paris , you ll be surprised by the dimensions , the beauty or the fullness of the museum .
It's a to be seen . Plus , you ll find easily a special hip on hip off just for that museum to go to and bring you back at the Dante station .

The museum is beautiful. If you're into art and stuck in Naples on a rainy day, it's the perfect activity; you can easily spend a couple.of hours just inside. The grounds outside are massive as well, and very lovely. I'd give it a pure 5 for the museum experience.

The organization and the staff however, is a whole new story. Some are friendly enough, but the lady selling tickets prefers to browse her Facebook news than talking to visitors/selling tickets. What's more, there aren't many (if any) benches in the museum; you can't sit down while observing the paintings, which would be nice (and a common practice in many other art galleries). Also, the descriptions of art pieces are 80% Italian, which is quite egocentric. Few and very random objects have English descriptions. And the descriptions are quite small. Trying to read them (by leaning forward) sets off the mini alarm every time you get too close to the art work. To top it all off, the toilets are an absolute disgrace.

Great collection in a beautiful palace, totally worth the small effort to get there. From the Museum metro station, follow the signs in the station for the Capodimonte exit, then turn right and the bus stop is about 100 feet up the street. The bus lets you off at an entrance to the park, from which it is a short walk to the museum. There are more detailed instructions on the museum's website.

My experience was terrible, and I strongly advise against the museum especially on Sundays.
You pay the full ticket but you can only access the second floor, the first which is that of the royal apartment, not the ceramics and Caravaggio, and not even the ground floor. They clean them on SUNDAY!!!
There is no audio guide, they tell you to download a free app. You think, well, modernity, but then you discover that it's not audio or even driving. For an entire art gallery there are only 4 short historians to read. A farce.

In this case I advise you to spend a few euros more and go with a real guide.

We went to the museum attracted by the good reviews, when we got there we discovered that:
- the armory is closed for restoration
- the royal apartments closed for refurbishment
- contemporary art closed for restoration
- 800 private closed for restoration
- the main painting, "The Flagellation" by Caravaggio, has been temporarily moved to another museum.

Ultimately, one section in 5 of the museum is open, but the full ticket price is charged.

Nice rip-off.
